Talk:4e Index (4e Index)

Beyond the Core[edit]
We really need to update this index to contain things from the other sourcebooks beyond the PHB, DMG, and MM. -- Sepsis 16:03, 17 March 2009 (MDT)
- I don't think that it is feasable to do the other sourcebooks... maybe PHB II etc... We'd need to get all of the sourcebooks they released, and they don't always have indexes... Plus, they seem to release something every other month (if not every month), so by the time we finished something (and, without an index in the books, we'd be sure to miss something), there would be yet another book to do. Maybe we need another solution for sourcebooks... --Sam Kay 07:51, 10 April 2009 (MDT)
- Yes we do need some solution. I know Green Dragon loves to have appropriate links in articles, but it is quickly getting to a point where refferences to certain things have no link possible. If this continues, it may become odd to continue to use "4e Index" links when more info won't have one available then does. Also bear in mind that many entries in the "4e Index" are not from an actual Index in one of the hardcovers, but may refference a glossary, chart, or non-"indexed" entry. So we may not require an actual Index in the book to add it to a page (besides we are making an index, not just transcribing one). Although we may wish to break down the source types (ie. PHBs, DM sourcebooks, MMs, PHB sourcebooks, etc.) in order to keep the page from becoming huge. And yes they continue to realease new material every month, but that was no surprise (they made it clear at the start they would do so), so it maybe that we need a few devoted souls who would work this project near full-time. -- Sepsis 10:52, 10 April 2009 (MDT)
- What if we migrate away from using an index and change to use the Publication List? For example we could grossly elaborate on all the 4e books (as an example of what a start would look like — Complete Divine). Then we could create 4e redirects which link to their appropriate book. Thoughts? --Green Dragon 06:49, 11 April 2009 (MDT)
- I like the idea. If we won't have 4e SRDs, then this will probably work best. Particularly given the amount of info. that will exist in the near future. -- Sepsis 12:39, 11 April 2009 (MDT)
- That might work... That said, I think we should keep the index for "core 3" links, and use Green Dragon's idea for the sourcebooks etc. That way, we can link to important terms in the core rules, and use link via publication list to races, classes and powers etc. from the sourcebooks. --Sam Kay 04:19, 12 April 2009 (MDT)
- We desparately need an index to everything. Arcane Spellfury, I hear it's great, is it a feat? A power? What book is it in? I'm looking at like 6 books here and it could conceivably be in 4 of them. Arcane Wellspring? Implement Expertise? Come on, I need something to point me in the right direction. - It's called the D&D Compendium. There are over 3000 feats, and nearly 10,000 powers. It is a mistake to think we should list them all here. Marasmusine (talk) 02:19, 2 December 2012 (MST)
