Symthesist (3.5e Class)

Symthesist[edit]

A Symthesist is a class that is untrainable. Only by obtaining a symbiote from the far realm can anyone become a Symthesist. While the host had easily survived without the symbiote before taking this class, they are now one and will die without each other together at all times. Tendrils and claws are ready to strike any obstacle in her path. Though the symbiote has no mind of it's own while weak, it leeches off the psyche of the owner and gains it's own sentience over time.

Making a Symthesist[edit]

Symthesists are next to always front line fighters. With the largest hit dice and a wide array of abilities that require a melee attack, they are best as tanks and melee combatants. For those that are not inclined to be direct, the symbiote has ways of enhancing skills and stealth, though at a lesser degree than it's melee capability.

Abilities: For the front line Symthesists, they enjoy a good Strength and Constitution score, folowed by a decent Dexterity score for feat qualification. Strength helps any Symthesist get extra damage from her tendrils and claws, and Constitution improves the Symthesist's armor class since Symthesists cannot wear armor, as well as helping enhance the DC of many of her later level abilites. Constitution is also used to improve her poor fortitude save.

Races: Any race within the size limit can become a Symthesist, though it is rumored that only Humans can become Symthesists. This is from the fact a symthesist, upon taking her first class level, is unable to be distinguished as a single humanoid race and that humans are a common race.

Alignment: Any. Though from the far realm, the symboite has no control over it's host.

Starting Gold: 5d4×10 gp (125 gp).

Starting Age: "Simple".

Special: Host must be Large size or smaller to use class levels. See Ex-Symthesists

Class Features[edit]

When taking levels in Symthesist, the Symthesist adds her life force to the Symbiote that has bonded with her body. All of the following are class features of the Symthesist.

Weapon and Armor Proficiency: A symthesist gains weapon proficiency with five chosen simple weapons. This decision can not be changed later. She is not proficient in any armor or shields. She is proficient with any natural attacks granted by this class.

Least Symbiote (Ex): At first level, a symthesist has fully bonded with her symbiote, though this bond lacks strength. A symbiote is worn as a second skin around the host, making it impossible for the symthesist to wear normal armor of any kind. This does not include abjuration, conjuration, or similar spells and effects. For instance, a symthesist with caster levels could cast Mage Armor and gain the benefits of the spell. A symthesist could also wear Bracers of Armor to gain an Armor bonus to AC.
