Swordsman's Blessing[edit]

You gain powerful skills in swordsmanship allowing you to pull off something beyond your natural ability.

This blessing can be given when a swordsman pulls off a task beyond their natural ability or whenever a DM thinks it is appropriate.

Blessing

You can use a bonus action to activate this blessing, entering a powerful state for one minute. While in this state you gain 5 temporary hit points, and a number of Will points detailed in each description below. You can use this blessing twice. When you finish a short rest, you regain up to one expended use, and when you finish a long rest, you regain up to two expended uses.

Will Points

This blessing uses an active Will point pool, and a total Will point pool. While the blessing is active, you add Will points to your active Will point pool. After the minute has passed, you add all points from your active Will point pool to your total Will point pool. For every 3 Will points you have in your total Will point pool, you have a level of exhaustion. Resting for 12 hours reduces your total Will point pool by up to 3 points, and any level of exhaustion caused by those points is removed. If you die from exhaustion by the end of this blessing, you cannot be brought back by anything less than a wish spell.

You can use one of the following actions each turn:

  • Double Slash. As a free action you can gain 1 Will point. The next attack on your turn strikes up to 2 creatures within 10 feet of each other. This attack deals an extra 2d6 slashing damage.
  • Precise Slash. You take a moment to aim and cut the target like butter. As a free action, you gain 1 Will point. You have advantage on your next melee weapon attack. The attack deals an extra 2d6 slashing damage.
  • Sharp Cut. You channel your energy into one powerful cut. As a free action, you gain 2 Will points. The next attack on your turn deals an extra 4d6 slashing damage. Additionally, after making this attack you can teleport to an empty space up to 30 feet behind the target of your attack as though using the misty step spell. This movement does not count against your movement speed and does not provoke opportunity attacks.
  • True Cut. You take your future energy and put it into one strike. As a free action, you gain up to 30 Will points. You roll a number of d6 dice equal to 2 times the number of Will points you gained with this action. The next attack on your turn deals extra damage equal to the rolled total as magical slashing damage.
  • Wave Slash. You shoot a wave of sharp air at a creature. As a free action, you gain one Will point. The next melee weapon attack on your turn has a range of 10 + your proficiency bonus times 10 feet. The attack deals an extra 2d6 slashing damage.

Example: If you have one level of exhaustion from another source, and 1 Will point in your total Will point pool, you are suffering from 1 level of exhaustion. If you activate the blessing and gain 5 Will points, your active Will points pool be at 5, but your total Will point pool will stay at 1 for the time being. When the blessing subsides, you add the 5 points to your total Will points pool for a total of 6 Will points. Your total exhaustion level is now 3; 1 level of exhaustion was from before, and 2 levels are the result of Will points.

Example Part 2: You have 3 levels of exhaustion and 6 Will points in your total Will point pool. If rest for 8 hours, you will reduce exhaustion level by 1. However, in order to remove the other exhaustion levels, you must remove your Will points. In order to remove all of your Will points, you would need to rest for an additional 24 hours.
