Artificer Subclass

Swiftcrafters see their legs as something to be upgraded and replaced, for the sake of furthering development. They see their bodies as a painter sees their canvas, and they sure do love to paint!

The art of Swiftcrafting began with a disabled woman. Her legs never worked and she felt excluded by it. So she took her fate into her own hands, toiling for months on end to construct a replacement for her defunct legs. People were impressed by her augmentations, and began following her tracks.

Tools of the trade[edit]

Starting at level three, you gain proficiency with smith's tools. If you already have this tool proficiency, you gain proficiency with one other type of artisan's tools of your choice.

Swiftcrafter Spells[edit]

Spell Level Spells
1st thunderwave, thunderous smite
2nd blur, misty step
3rd haste, ashardalon's stride
4th freedom of movement, staggering smite
5th far step, steel wind strike

Augmented Legs[edit]

At 3rd level, you replace your legs with arcane mechanics which you may have attached blades to. Your augmented legs count as two weapons but can be infused as if they were one, and infusions apply to both. Your legs are simple melee weapons you are proficient with, that have the finesse property, and deal 1d4 bludgeoning, piercing, or slashing damage (your choice). Whenever you hit with an attack with your legs, you may make an additional attack with them using your bonus action. You may use your legs as a focus for your artificer spells. You may use your Intelligence modifier, rather than your Strength or Dexterity modifier for your attack and damage rolls with your legs.

Augmented Movement[edit]

Beginning at 3rd level, your legs have made you startlingly fast. Your movement speed increases by 10 feet, and you can take the dash or disengage action as a bonus action. Additionally, you may use your Intelligence score in place of your Strength score when calculating jump distance. Your speed increases by an additional 5 feet at 6th, 10th, 14th, and 18th.

Combination Attacks[edit]

At 5th level, whenever you make your first attack with your legs using your bonus action, action, or reaction, you may make one additional attack with your legs. Additionally, when you roll a critical hit on an attack with your legs, you may make another attack with your legs.

Defying Mechanics[edit]

Starting at 9th level, your legs have been upgraded to deny gravity's grasp upon you:

  • You gain a climbing speed equal to your walking speed, and you don't need your hands to use it.
  • When you take falling damage, you may take a reaction to reduce the damage taken by Your Artificer Level times Your Intelligence Modifier.

Mastery of Augmentation.[edit]

By level 15, you have enhanced your legs beyond what they ever should have been able to do:

  • Your legs gain the thrown property(20/60), and thanks to a chain attached to their bases, they instantly return to your legs after you throw them.
  • Your legs' damage die becomes 2d4.
