Shadowcrabs are foul, shadowy amalgamations of undead crustaceans that will attack any living creatures within their vicinity, tearing them to shreds only for them to rise as another black horde of bloodthirsty crabs. These crabs are said to emerge from the very shadows, their glossy black shells melding with the darkness as the multitude scurries towards their prey, the shuffle of their bodies creating a menacing cacophony of rustling sound. Undying Hatred. Shadowcrabs are said to be the undead manifestations of unscrupulous pirates, cruel sea hags, and other such vile ocean folk whose bitter hatred for the world has prevented them from passing on and allowed them to reemerge as multitudes of lowly, hateful critters. These sorts of creatures are typically found within shipwrecked vessels of notorious pirate crews and have also been known to spawn in great numbers on beaches that have become littered with corpses as a result of some violent naval conflict. Marooned individuals who are betrayed by their companions and cannibalized for food also have a great likelihood of returning as a swarm overnight, so long as any portion of their body remains uneaten or unburied. Hatred of Light. Shadowcrabs are known to only attack during the nighttime, instinctively scuttling back into the ocean with the arrival of dawn. Undead Nature. A swarm of shadowcrabs doesn't require air, food, drink, or sleep. |
