Steel Soul (5e Subclass)
Steel Soul[edit]
Sorcerer Subclass
The Steel Soul sorcerer is a practitioner of both arcane power and the art of smithing, weaving the raw strength of metal with the finesse of magic. Their bond with their weapon goes beyond the mundane, transforming their weapon into a conduit of magical energy that becomes an extension of their own soul.
- Bonding of Steel
At 1st level, you gain proficiency with Smiths Tools, as well as the ability to forge a bond between yourself and a single weapon over the period of 1 hour which must remain within reach of you for this time and cannot be a Sentient Weapon.
Your Bonded Weapon gains these properties:
- You gain proficiency with your Bonded Weapon
- Your Bonded Weapon functions as a Spellcasting Focus
- You can summon your weapon, teleporting it to your hand with a bonus action if it is in the same plane of existence as you are
- Arcane Steel
Also at 1st level, you gain either the Booming Blade or Green Flame Blade cantrip.
You learn additional spells when you reach certain levels in this class, as shown in the table below. Each of these spells counts as a sorcerer spell for you, but it doesn’t count against the number of sorcerer spells you know.
Sorcerer Level | Spell Slot | Spell |
---|---|---|
1st | 1st level | Searing Smite |
3rd | 2nd level | Heat Metal |
5th | 3rd level | Elemental Weapon |
- Soul of the Forge
At 6th level, if the spell Heat Metal is cast on your Bonded Weapon, you no longer take damage from it or suffer any of the detrimental effects. Your Bonded Weapon's damage dice becomes that of Heat Metal at whatever spell level it was cast at. If the Spellcaster that cast Heat Metal on your Bonded Weapon stops concentrating on the spell, it's effects persist for 1 minute or until you strike a creature with your bonded Weapon.
- Tempest of Steel
At 14th level, you learn the steel wind strike spell, which doesn't count against your maximum number of spells known.
In addition, you can cast this spell once, without spending a spell slot, being unable to do so again until you finish a short or long rest.
- Spell and Steel
At 18th level, if you use your action to cast a Cantrip or Spell, you may make one attack with a bonus action.
