Situational BAB Buff for Rogue and Monk (3.5e Alternate Class Feature)

Background[edit]

It is often difficult for the monk and rogue to keep up with their full-BAB brethren. This variant rule provides them with a situational attack bonus that rewards the player for playing the class with proper style, bringing their attack bonus up to that of a fighter.

Rules[edit]

The monk and rogue each have a new class feature, detailed below.

Monk[edit]

Centered Bonus: When wearing armor, using a shield, carrying a medium or heavy load, or using a weapon not in the monk weapon proficiency list, a monk is no longer centered. A monk who is not centered loses many of her class abilities, including her centered bonus, her AC bonus, her fast movement, and her flurry of blows abilities.

While she is centered, the monk gains a +1 bonus to attack rolls (including combat maneuvers). This bonus increases by +1 at 5th level and every four levels thereafter (9th, 13th, 17th), to a maximum of +5 at 17th level.

Rogue[edit]

Combat Tactics: The rogue is much more dangerous when combat conditions favor his fighting style. The rogue gains a +1 bonus to attack rolls any time his target would be denied a Dexterity bonus to AC (whether the target actually has a Dexterity bonus or not), or when the rogue flanks his target. This bonus increases by +1 at 5th level and every four levels thereafter (9th, 13th, 17th), to a maximum of +5 at 17th level.
