Siege beetles are massive insects capable of breaking stone using their gigantic horns. They can be trained, and some armies use them as living siege weapons.
In the wild, siege beetles live in groups typically consisting of no more than five and migrate in search of leaves and other plant material to feed on, though they are omnivorous. They only gather in larger numbers once a year to breed, after which the female lays many large eggs under a tree and waits for them to hatch. After a few days, the eggs hatch and the adults move on, leaving the ravenous larvae to eat almost everything they come across. Siege beetle larvae are much sought after, as the thought of an adult siege beetle stomping through ranks of enemy soldiers is very enticing to any general or warlord.
