School of the Arcane Fist[edit]

Wizard Subclass

Students of the Arcane Fist are taught to combine magic with hand-to-hand combat in order to gain an advantage over their opponents. They use Divination to predict attacks, Abjuration to defend themselves, and Evocation to strike down their enemies.

Unarmoured Defense

When you choose this tradition at 2nd level, you have learned to use a combination of Abjuration and Divination magics to avoid your enemies’ attacks. While you are wearing no armour and not wielding a shield, your AC equals 10 + your Dexterity modifier + your Intelligence modifier.

Spellcaster’s Strikes

Also at 2nd level, you have learned to weave Evocation magic into your unarmed strikes. You gain the following benefits while you are wearing no armour and not wielding a shield:

  • You have proficiency with your unarmed strikes.
  • You can use Intelligence instead of Strength for the attack and damage rolls of your unarmed strikes.
  • You can roll a 3d4 in place of the normal damage of your unarmed strikes. This increases to a 3d6 at level 8, and a 3d8 at level 14.
  • You may deal the following types of damage with your unarmed strikes, rather than bludgeoning, if you wish: acid, cold, fire, lightning, or thunder.
  • You may use your fists as the material component of any spell that requires a weapon.
Attacks of the Weave

Beginning at 6th level, you have learned how to seamlessly blend your attacks into the somatic motions of your spellcasting. When you cast an Evocation spell, you may make an unarmed strike as a bonus action. Additionally, ranged spells cast in close-quarters no longer impose disadvantage on you.

Arcane Reflexes

At 10th level, you have learned to use Divination to see your enemies’ attacks coming before they strike. As a reaction when an combatant within your reach targets you with an attack, you may make an unarmed strike against the attacker or cast a cantrip with targeted at them. This cantrip may only affect the combatant that has targeted you. If your attack hits, or they fail an associated saving throw, the combatant has disadvantage on its attack against you.

Mage’s Focus

At 14th level, you have learned to use Abjuration magic to protect the flow of the arcane energy through your body. Your concentration on spells that only target you cannot be broken as a result of taking damage.
