Sapphire Soul (3.5e Alternate Class Feature)
From D&D Wiki
Soul of Incarnum[edit]
This is a variant for the favored soul base class (the WotC's favored soul class)
Sapphire souls are a special kind of favored souls. Blessed with incarnum from birth or after training, they meld their divine prowess with the power of incarnum, shaping the divine soul of their deity and the mystic forces that it exudes. They gain a unique incarnum ability that mirrors the domain feature of the cleric in the form of a powerful soulmeld called divinemeld. They bind these melds in their Divine Soul chakra, manifesting the glory of their deity.
Class: Favored Soul In The Dungeon
Level: 1st
Special requirements: You may not be true neutral. You must have at least 1 point of essentia by means of race, class or feat.
Replaces: If you select this class feature, you do not gain the Weapon Focus feat with your deity's favored weapon at 1st level, nor you gain the Weapon Specialization feat with your deity's favored weapon at 7th level and your Energy resistance feature. You don't gain any spellcasting. You do not gain your Spiritual wings and Flight of praise at 6th and 11th level. Your Channel divinity feature changes, as well as your Domain and Damage reduction features. At 20th level you do not gain Divine self.
Benefit: At 1st level you gain one incarnum feat for free. You gain one extra essentia point at 1st, 5th, 10th, 15th and 20th level. You gain the Meldshaping feature as an incarnate of your class level (so your soulmelds are drawn from the incarnate's soulmeld list[1]), altough your pool of essentia is equal to that of the totemist. You may use your Charisma to determine the maximum number of souldmelds at any level instead of Constitution. You cannot shape soulmelds with an alignment descriptor that does not match your own. For example, if you are a lawful good favored soul, you cannot shape soulmelds with the chaotic or evil descriptors.
The Difficulty Class for a saving throw against a favored soul soulmeld is 10 + number of points of essentia invested in the soulmeld + your Wisdom modifier. Your meldshaper level is equal to your favored soul level.
A favored soul can shape only a certain number of soulmelds per day. Your base daily allotment is given on Table: The Soul of Incarnum. The maximum number of soulmelds that you can have shaped simultaneously is equal to your Constitution or Charisma (your choice) score minus 10 or the number of soulmelds allowed for your level, whichever is lower. At 1st level, you can shape two soulmelds at a time (assuming you have a Constitution or Charisma score of at least 12). As you advance in level, you can shape an increasing number of soulmelds.
At 1st level, you also gain access to your personal pool of essentia, which can be invested into your soulmelds to increase their power. Your essentia pool's size is shown on Table: The Soul of Incarnum. Your character level, as noted on Table: Essentia Capacity, determines the maximum quantity of essentia that you can invest in any single soulmeld. As a swift action, you can reallocate your essentia investments in your soulmelds every round.
A favored soul does not study or prepare soulmelds in advance, but must have a good night's rest and must meditate for 1 hour to shape its soulmelds for the day.
At 2nd level you gain Channel incarnum instead of Channel divinity. One time per encounter per Charisma modifier you may use Channel incarnum (only once per round) as a swift action that doesn't conflict with the swift action to reinvest essentia points. For a full round you gain a bonus you choose from the Channel divinity list, except that, instead of the increase on caster level and caster checks, you may choose to gain a +1 to the maximum essentia capacity for soulmelds, feats, spells, items or anything that uses essentia. While using this feature you may invest or reinvest your essentia point. When the bonus ends excessive essentia points go back to your essentia pool. This bonus increases by one at each enhancement of your Channel incarnum feature. Instead of spells DC you may increase your soulmelds' DC.
This feature works as the Channel divinity feature and its improvements.
At 3rd level you gain the Chakra binds feature as an incarnate of your class level and all of its enhancements, except that you do not gain the Chakra bind (soul) feature, as you have already the Chakra bind (Divine Soul). This feature improves at 5th, 10th and 14th.
Binding a soulmeld to a chakra closes the body slot associated with that chakra, so that you cannot also benefit from a magic item worn on the body slot associated with that chakra.
The number of chakra binds that you can have active at any one time depends on your level (see the Chakra Binds column on Table: The Soul of Incarnum).
At 4th level you gain the Incarnum Domain, regardless of your deity's domains. You may cast ach spell on the list as a spell-like ability one time per day. You may use 1st and 2nd level spells at 4th level and you gain the next spell level every two subsequent class levels.
At 6th level you gain the Divine Soul chakra bind feature. The Divine Soul chakra is similar to the totem chakra of the totemist and the class feature works similarly to the totem chakra bind feature.
You may bind special soulmeds, called divinemelds, to your Divine Soul chakra and only to it. Any divinemeld bound to the Divine Soul chakra has an essentia capacity 1 higher than the normal capacity for your soulmelds and the effective meldshaper level of a divinemeld you have bound to your Divine Soul chakra is equal to your actual meldshaper level +1. The primary effect of this benefit is to make that divinemeld harder to unshape. At 11th level, you gain the ability to bind a two soulmeld to your Divine Soul chakra at the same time. You gain the special benefits of both chakra binds. At 15th level, the capacity of any divinemeld bound to your Divine Soul chakra increases by an additional point.
This chakra is not associated with any location on the body, but rather represents your connection to the sacred essence of your deity. When you bind a soulmeld to your Divine Soul chakra, you take on characteristics of the deity represented by the meld - usually involving a limited physical transformation. Since the Divine Soul chakra doesn't match a body location, binding a soulmeld to this chakra doesn't restrict your use of magic items that take up a body location.
Any prestige class that gives you the ability to bind soulmeld to new chakras stacks with levels in the sapphire soul class for the purpose of gaining and augmenting the Divine Soul chakra bind feature.
At 7th level you gain another incarnum feat for free.
At 13th level you gain the Spiritual weaponry feature as usual but if you are partially neutral you may only align your weapon with your non-neutral alignment.
At 19th level you gain damage reduction 10/opposite to your alignment. So if you are chaotic evil you gain DR 10/lawful and good, if you are lawful neutral you gain DR 10/chaotic and so on.
At 20th level you gain the Divine embodiment feature. You gain the ability to temporarily link your body and soul to your Divine Soul chakra. This greatly enhances the power of essentia invested in soulmelds bound to that chakra. For the duration of this ability, your normal essentia capacity of any soulmeld bound to your Divine Soul chakra is doubled. Every point of essentia invested in a soulmeld bound to your Divine Soul chakra counts as 2 points of essentia.
Activating this ability is a free action that does not provoke attacks of opportunity. It can be used for a number of rounds equal to your Constitution or Charisma bonus (minimum 1). You may split the time in smaller intervals.
