Tiefling Subrace[edit]

Sahkils are dreadful creatures that lurk among the Ethereal Plane, slipping into nightmares and shadows of the world to torment the living. Once psychopomps, the Sahkil rebelled against their role, becoming embodiments of mortal fears of which they feed off of. The more powerful the Sahkil, the more incomprehensibly shaped they are. Sahkil mask themselves, and prefer to subtly build terror and distress over time in their victims, over bursts of terror.

As a Tiefling born of the Sahkil, your appearance is likely intimidating to other humanoids, subtly off in ways, like a grin too wide, or an extra joint in a limb. You also likely enjoy the feeling of terror and unease within others.

Ability Score Increase. Your Wisdom score increases by 1.
Legacy of Xibalba. You know the mind sliver cantrip. Once you reach 3rd level, you can cast the cause fear spell once. Once you reach 5th level, you can cast the shadow blade spell once. You must finish a long rest to cast one of these spells again with this trait. Intelligence, Wisdom, or Charisma is your spellcasting ability for these spells when you cast them with this trait (choose when you select this race).
Tormenting Nature. You have resistance to psychic damage. You have proficiency with the Intimidation skill. If you are already proficient with this skill, you gain proficiency with another skill of your choice. This trait replaces the Hellish Resistance trait.
