Rokk[edit]
“ | There were things that crawled out of the earth we do not speak of... | ” |
Physical Description[edit]
Rokka, singular rokk, are humanoids with earthen-toned skin. Their skin appears scaly, almost as though it has a dermis infection. However, this is actually natural, meant to appear like the cracks of dry earth. Rokka sometimes have hair, which zigs and zags out from their scalp like metallic tines. The eyes of the rokka are metallic in color, lacking pupils. Otherwise, their limb orientation, face, and everything else are fairly close to that of a human. Despite their earthen appearance, rokka do have vital fluids and function as living beings do, to an extent.
History[edit]
The rokka claim ancestry from the earth itself. Supposedly, as primal energies amassed, mixed with seepage from the Elemental Plane of Earth, a variety of creatures were born from the ground. Some were malicious and brainless monsters. Others were mildly sapient. The rokka were among the higher end of sapience. They are alleged to have come out of eerie, human-shaped indentations in the earth, rising out as though punched out. Their holes remain stamped into the stone, a reminder of their origin. These holes were a sensation for a short while when the rokka were first discovered. People erroneously believed them to be creatures from the underworld at first.
Society[edit]
Most rokka live in small communities near their original birthplace, along the side of mountains, canyons, and rocky escarpments. They take refuge in caves, with sight that does not need light. These caves have been found to contain cave art depicting scenes from the Plane of Earth, including reverent images of the dao genies. They feel at ease when in the natural world surrounded by stone and earth. One can say their true abilities lie within their connection to the earth. Their "birth walls" are always nearby. These are the stone walls where their bodies arose from, meaning they are often full of human-shaped holes. When a rokk dies, its body is "returned" to the earth via these holes. In a form of burial, they are sealed back into their respective hole. Within a few days usually, a newborn rokk will emerge.
