Rainids are a broad category of frog-like humanoids. They generally have long, spindly limbs, no neck and a wide head and mouth. They are hairless and may have smooth or warty skin, of many different colors depending on the species of rainid. Rainids are quite a bit taller than most intelligent humanoids, averaging close to seven feet tall, with some ranging as much as ten or eleven feet high. Some subspecies of rainid are, however, short. Along with their large size, rainids are bulky and muscular, and almost always very athletic. Rainids are just as intelligent as humans or any similar race, but are not generally as civilized or technologically advanced. Rainids are perceived as stupid, barbaric and prone to fits of emotion, though the degree to which this is true varies quite a bit depending on the species: abyssal rainids, for example, are very refined, civilized and intelligent, while wart rainids are clearly boorish and barely sentient. Mostly carnivorous, rainids tend to spend most of their time hunting, and they are very good at it. Different species of rainids each have their own preferred food source, ranging from fish to insects or small mammals. Most rainids are also highly specialized farmers, and are very knowledgeable in the raising of crops and livestock native to their regions.

Rainids tend to be very tribal cultures, consisting of small bands of a few dozen to a few hundred members, who are then conglomerated into tribes. Even the more civilized rainids maintain tribal divisions and an innate sense of clannishness. Rainids sometimes marry outside the clan, though in most cultures, it is only the women who do so. It is generally frowned upon and sometimes forbidden. Though stereotyped as terrible wizards, there is no inherent reason for it, and all rainid species can grow perfectly adept at sorcery. Many rainid species are very adept at leaping, and some can leap hundreds of feet straight into the air. They also tend to be excellent climbers, and many of the species are also adapted to burrow in their native environments.
