Roughly one-quarter the size of a common bulette, the pygmy bulette is believed to have been somehow marooned on a series of islands many years ago. To survive with limited prey, they grew smaller over time. Despite this adaptation, cannibalism is still a very common occurrence in times of starvation. A pack of pygmy bulettes may coordinate their attacks to take down larger prey. After such a kill they will invariably squabble amongst themselves over the meal. Like its cousin, the pygmy bulette relies on its tremorsense ability to detect prey while burrowing underground, before surfacing to strike.
