Predator (5e Subclass)
Predator[edit]
Rogue subclass
More than just a scoundrel, you stalk your targets with singleminded determination, becoming proficient in remaining unperceived by those you wish to harm. You have been taught the way of the hunt, but you have chosen more dangerous prey than those who have chosen the natural world as their hunting grounds -- you hunt people.
Note -- when the word "prey" is used in this subclass's abilities, it refers to any creature you have marked with Hunter's Mark, Hex, or a similar effect (i.e. Hexblade's Curse).
Stalker's Instinct
If you do not have proficiency in Stealth, you gain it. If you have proficiency in Stealth but did not choose it with your Expertise feature, you make Stealth checks as if you had. If you had already chosen it with that feature, choose another skill from the Rogue skill list to gain proficiency in.
Predator animals you interact with can sense your similar nature, granting advantage on Animal Handling checks with them.
Mystical Predator
Starting at 3rd level when you choose this subclass, you are able to instinctively tap into some of the same natural energy that rangers are able to use. This gives you an uncanny awareness of your prey's perception, allowing you to make stealth checks against them even if they have a clear view of you. This does not hide you from any other creatures.
Additionally, you may cast Hunter's Mark twice per short rest without expending a spell slot, and you may also cast this spell with a spell slot of the appropriate level. Whenever you mark your target as your prey using this feature (including using a spell slot), you may attempt to hide from them for free.
At 9th level, you gain an additional use of Hunter's Mark per short rest, and cast it as if at 3rd level. You gain another use at 13th level, and can cast it as if at 5th level.
Unseen Hunter
Starting at 9th level, when you successfully attack from hiding and would add sneak attack damage, add your sneak attack damage dice an additional time. If the attack is against your prey, roll damage from whichever effect marks them as your prey an additional time.
Reminiscent of Shadow
Starting at 13th level, you have learned to remain hidden when you attack your prey. When you make a successful attack against them from hiding, you may attempt to remain hidden without expending any resources. You may also use this feature on a missed attack, but will roll the stealth check at disadvantage. If you use this feature on a melee attack and there are no conscious allies within 5 feet of your prey, you roll the stealth check at disadvantage. If the attack roll is a critical fail, you may not use this feature, and if the attack roll is a critical success, you automatically remain hidden. You may use this feature once per turn.
Additionally, you have learned to take advantage of your prey's momentary distractions. You may attempt to hide from your prey as a reaction whenever they move or take damage, including from you.
Inevitability of Death
Starting at 17th level, you are a master hunter, embodying death itself. Whenever you successfully attack your prey, you roll damage from whichever effect marks them as your prey an additional time (this stacks with your Unseen Hunter feature). You cannot miss when attacking from hiding.
