Since the dawn of Thra, Podlings have breathed close to the heart of this planet. Though they care not for politics or other internal affairs, they are incredibly insightful to the well-being of nature. Podlings bring many achievements to society such as the domestication of Fizzgig and Nebrie. Despite living simple lives, anyone knows to invite Podlings to a celebration no matter the occasion. Their attendance will ensure the success of any party.
Physical Qualities[edit]
Podling are one of the smallest sentient creatures of Thra, and as such, are often influenced into a subservient role to taller beings. Despite being treated as uncivilized and unintelligent, Podling care very little about their image towards other races and usually comply to being treated as servants to larger races.
Podlings average around three and a half feet tall with potato shaped heads and bolbous noses. Due to their size they are usually quite weak, yet they do hold a surprising amount of courage for such a small creature. Podlings wear humble clothes from scraps of fabric and generally look as if they live in poverty in squalor. Although you may often find them covered in dirt and grime, it is not a reflection of their status and merely shows their connection to nature as they are exquisite gardeners.
Attitudes and Beliefs[edit]
Podlings care very little about their impression towards other races. They stick close together and although they understand other languages, they have difficulty speaking outside their native tongue. This coupled with their disheveled appearance makes them look to be uneducated neanderthals. Like any other race, Podlings hold prejudice and stereotypes of those unlike their kind. They have been known to be extremely distasteful towards Vapra and Stonewood clans of Gelfling.
Podling Communities[edit]
Podlings dwell in heavily populated woodland villages, making their homes in bulging plant pods which is how the race achieved their name. Relations between Podlings are closely-knit and are treasured before any gem or jewel. The 'Pod People' live pastoral lifestyles, being renown gardeners and farmers due to their achievement in domestication Fizzgig and Nebrie. Some lucky Podlings who are acknowledged for their talent in music or meal preparation have been invited to stay at the Gelfling capital or even the Castle of the Crystal as servants.
Podling Adventurers Adventurers[edit]
Play a Podling if you want...
- to grow as an individual through the arts and exploration.
- to adventure for the journey and stories you will share.
- to be a member of a race that favors the bard, rogue, and paladin classes.
One sample Podling adventurer is described below.
Jinju is a Podling Bard who hopes to find success and fame to provide for his family. With humble beginnings, he sets out to find an audience for his comedy act with the dreams of becoming a famous performer. Though he is small, he knows the forest well and asks the beasts of Thra to help him reach the Gelfling capital of Laranon. There, he hopes to perform for the All-Maudra where she may invite him and his family to live in the citadel and work as an entertainer. Jinju is a generous soul, and believes that giving onto others will pay in dividends once he reaches the Silver Sea. He is kind to fellow adventurers and enjoy making sure that everyone partakes of his wonderful cooking at each rest. While Jinju has a lovely wife and three children back at his village, he feels conflicted about his affection towards his travel companion Artha. She is kind and gentle, and perhaps he can learn much about Thra through her point of view.
Roleplaying a Podling[edit]
The name Podlings, or 'Pod People' as they are sometimes referred to, is a convenient rendering of their ancestral name 'apopiapoiopidiap pididiapipob' which roughly translates to "master gardeners who live in bulging plants." They enjoy laughter, music, and celebration throwing wild parties with wine and song for almost any occasion. While adept in gardening, the Pod People also are renown in their ability to raise livestock and were noted to be the first race in Thra to domesticate both the Nebrie and the Fizzgig.
Podlings are comfortable in the close with nature, and usually do not adjust well to large cities with crowded streets and tall buildings. As one of Thra's oldest races, second only to the Gelfling, they tend to the caretakers of the earth and its creatures. Podlings are coveted as servants for their wonderful music and unmatched culinary skills. Due to being so hospitable, even if a Podling does not particularly care for a certain race, they always offer a song or meal to anyone they meet as a gesture of good will.
