Petra Vita (5e Race)
From D&D Wiki
Petra Vita[edit]
Physical Description[edit]
More humanoid in shape and proportion than most golems, yet slightly smaller than the average human. Their faces tend to be nothing but two holes resembling eyes and nothing else. When completely bare, they look like a bunch of perfectly shaped, but miscolored ores glued together by glowing magic. Said magic may also weave in and out of the small cracks of their bodies, mainly their "eyes", like little strands of cloth flowing through the wind.
Innocence Born from Chaos[edit]
They have been around since the first misuse of magic. Whenever any cataclysmic event causes an imbalance of energy, some of it gets trapped underground as a dense packet of raw, and untamed magic. Over time, the surrounding rock and minerals would absorb this magic, and if enough were nearby, they would form together into one living, thinking being, a petra vita. Knowing nothing of the world, they are usually keen to explore it, reacting to every little discovery with glee.
A Friend to Lean On[edit]
A petra vita's first experiences with the world above tend to be less than positive. Most are ignored as golems without masters, and thus, lost. Some become scapegoats for a village's troubles, usually due to their timely appearances. Very few may also be abducted and forced to give up their sentience so they could serve without thought.
However, there are those who are lucky with their first visit above ground. Chance encounters with good souls allow a petra vita to learn about the world as well as forming a lasting bond with the one that found them. Through their good intentions and childlike wonder, locals would often find the small golems endearing and a friend they can always count on.
Petra Vita Names[edit]
Petra vita's usually take the names people call them the most as their own. This would often result in their names sounding more akin to pet names than real ones. It's also a good way to determine who the petra vita first encountered.
Positive First Encounter: Happy, Rocko, Dreamer, Bud
Neutral First Encounter: Bad Luck, Walking Pile 'O Rocks, Golem
Negative First Encounter: Help, Quiet You, Unit-17B, Monster
