Path of the Lumberjack (5e Subclass)
From D&D Wiki
The Lumberjack[edit]
Barbarian
You've spent your youth destroying and dominating all in your path, much like the others of your tribe or clan, but as you've grown older, you've abandoned your old angry ways. Instead, you have decided to utilize some of that raw physical power to create a life for yourself. You have found a viable, and sustainable way to make use of your strength.
- Recommendation
- Older Character
This archetype is intended for roleplaying a character that has decided to go against their old ways and make an attempt at a quiet life. It is highly recommended that you play a character that is at least 30 years old when taking this archetype.
- Resolve
Upon taking this archetype, you are incapable of Raging. Instead, you are able to enter a state of clarity and determination known as Resolve. Your Resolve may be used as many times as you would normally be able to enter your Rage. While under the effect of Resolve you gain the following benefits:
- You have advantage on Wisdom ability checks & saving throws
- You gain a bonus to AC equal to half of your rage damage bonus (rounded up)
- You have resistance to nonmagical bludgeoning, piercing, and slashing damage
The effects of Resolve, just like Rage, last for one minute. However, you do not need to attack or take damage to maintain Resolve. Instead, you can not speak, as your presence becomes cold and stern.
Additionally, while not wearing any armor (but may still be wielding a shield) your armor class equals 10 + your Constituion modifier + your Wisdom modifier. This replaces your Unarmored Defense feature.
- Wide Stance
Starting at 6th level, you can forego using your movement on your turn to take a wide stance, gaining the following benefits until the start of your next turn:
- Whenever you would make a dexterity saving throw, you can make a constitution saving throw instead
- You gain a +1 bonus to attack rolls with melee weapons (This increases to 2 at level 10)
- You can reduce the number of feet you are pushed, pulled, or shoved, by up to your walking speed (minimum 0')
- Solitary Heart
Your time spent reflecting on your past has given you a new sense of clarity. Starting at 10th level, you have advantage to saving throws that would impose the charmed or frightened conditions upon you.
In addition, you gain a bonus to Charisma ability checks equal to your Wisdom modifier.
- Stubborn
Once you reach 10th level while in a state of Resolve you gain a bonus to all saving throws you make equal to your Constitution modifier.
- As the Mountains
Starting at 14th level, when you are hit by an attack, or you fail a saving throw and would take damage, you may use your reaction to reduce the total damage you take by a number equal to your Constitution modifier + your Wisdom modifier + half your barbarian level (rounded down).
- Persistent Rage Variant
- Consistent Resolve
Persistent Rage's effect is altered so you are able to speak while in your state of Resolve.
- Primal Champion Variant
- Peace of Mind
Primal Champion's effect is altered to increase your wisdom by 4 and your constitution by 4 to a maximum of 24.
