Barbarian Subclass

Some warriors are fueled by gold and glory; others a deep-seated goal or calling. Others still embrace the primal nature of the wilds, whether it be within or without. But these warriors just like to get drunk and have a good time. If that good time just happens to involve taking down an evil warlord tormenting the good people in the village where his favorite tavern is, so be it.

Barbarians on the path of the Drunken Lout are a disorderly bunch, but what they appear to lack in self-control they more than make up for with moxie and blind luck.

Drunken Rage[edit]

At 3rd level, you gain proficiency with the Performance skill and with Brewer's Supplies if you aren't already proficient with them.

As part of the same bonus action used to enter a rage, you can either quaff an alcoholic beverage you have in hand or succeed on a Charisma (Performance) check against a DC of 13. If you do either of these, your rage becomes a drunken rage, gaining the following traits.

  • You gain the Blind Fighting fighting style from the Fighter class, represented as sheer dumb luck as you "unknowingly" strike unseen opponents.
  • You ignore the movement speed penalty of difficult terrain as you seem to stumble your way across the battlefield. You can even run along walls and other vertical surfaces (effectively giving you a climbing speed equal to your movement speed) as long as you end your move on a flat surface or can otherwise stabilize yourself such as holding on to a tree limb or rooftop, otherwise you risk taking fall damage or other consequences as determined by the DM.
  • You no longer provoke opportunity attacks for moving. You easily avoid such dangers due to what appears to be unpredictable accidents and coincidences as you stumble and stagger around. If you take the Disengage action, which you can take as a bonus action while in your drunken rage, this is effective even against abilities like the Sentinel feat.
  • You can get up from the prone condition on your turn without taking up any of your movement speed.

Drunken Riposte[edit]

At 6th level, while you are in a drunken rage, opponents attacking you in combat trigger an opportunity attack, though this, too, appears to be a series of comedic accidents as you respond seemingly without even noticing. You must still expend your reaction in order to make an opportunity attack.

In addition, your tolerance to alcohol and other poisons improves, granting you advantage on any saving throws you make against poisons and resistance to poison damage. If you already possess this trait, you instead gain immunity to poisons and to the negative effects of alcohol.

Drunken Dervish[edit]

At 10th level, your drunken rage allows you to gain a burst of speed as you roll and bounce around attacking everything you see. At the cost of your action and half of your movement for that turn, you can make a single melee attack against every opponent you are aware of within 15 feet of the square you initiated this move in. After doing so, you immediately return to your original square. You must still make an attack roll against each opponent.

After performing a drunken dervish, make a Constitution saving throw (DC 10). If you fail, you gain one level of exhaustion and cannot perform another dervish until you finish a short or long rest. Each time you perform an additional dervish, the DC of this test increases by 5. This DC resets each time you first enter a new drunken rage.

At 17th level, you can instead deal two attacks against each opponent in the area.

Drunkard's Buffoonery[edit]

At 14th level while you are in your drunken rage, you respond to danger with a drunkard's clarity. In combat, you get a special reaction that you can take once on every creature's turn except your own. You can use this special reaction only to make an opportunity attack. This includes opportunity attacks triggered by your Drunken Reflexes feature. As with your other path features, this most often looks accidental or circumstantial rather than a concentrated effort on your part.
