Path of the Dragoon (5e Subclass)
Path of the Dragoon[edit]
“ | It is nothing to jump, but it is something to make use of the fall. | ” |
—Brom Hughes, Human Dragoon, Quote from Dragoon Training Lectures |
Barbarians who follow the path of the dragoon are special warriors that use spears and polearms to make powerful attacks by jumping into the air, and allowing gravity to take hold to deal devastating damage.
- High Flier
Starting when you choose this path at 3rd level, you don't take fall damage from any distance so long as your fall is result of a jump.
In addition, you don't have any penalty on movement due to making standing jumps, and whenever you move before making a jump.
- Jump Strikes
Beginning at 3rd Level, when you are raging, once per turn when you move at least 15 feet with your jump before making a melee weapon attack, you cause additional damage equal 1d6. This increases to 2d6 at 6th level, 3d6 at 10th level and 4d6 at 14th level.
In addition, during your rage, your jump distance doubles.
- Dragon's Roar
Starting at 6th level, you can use your action to force all hostile creatures in a 30-foot cone that are able to hear you to make a Wisdom saving throw against a DC equal 8 + your proficiency bonus + your Constitution modifier. On a failed save, the target is frightened by you until the end of your next turn.
You can use this feature a number of times equal to your proficiency bonus, and regain your uses after completing a long rest.
- Dragon Heart
Starting at 10th level, when you are reduced to 0 hit points but not killed outright, you are reduced instead to a number of hit points equal to 1d6 per Barbarian level you have.
When you do so, you suffer 1 level of exhaustion. You can't use this feature while you are suffering from exhaustion.
- Dragon Dive
When you reach the 14th level, the impact of your fall devastate all creatures around you. While raging, you can forgo one of your attacks to make a powerful leap. All creatures within 15 feet must succeed on a Constitution saving throw, or take bludgeoning damage equal to 2d6 on a failed save, or half as much on a success.
Optional Class Features[edit]
Below are presented two optional class features that replace some of the Barbarian class features. This options are only available to Path of the Dragoon Barbarians.
- Dragon's Fang (Replaces Brutal Critical)
Starting at 9th level, if you hit a creature within 5 feet with an attack from a spear or a weapon that has the reach property, you can make another attack against a creature directly behind it at Disadvantage.
- Lancet (Replaces Relentless Rage)
When you reach the 11th level, you recover your vigor by delivering powerful strikes. Whenever you hit a creature with a Jump Strike, you regain a number of hit points equal to the number rolled on the additional damage dice.
