Path of the Dragonoid[edit]

Barbarian Subclass

Dragonoids are humanoids that have undergone a process to take on the attributes of a dragon, completely separate from any type of heredity. Barbarians of this primal path do so through a special ritual involving the crystalized heart of a dragon. The heart is not consumed in this ritual, but instead the prospective dragonoid takes in a mystical energy emanating from the heartstone referred to as "blood". Absorbing this energy warps the body of a dragonoid, allowing them to muster draconic powers while raging.

How heartstones are obtained varies amongst tribes. Some clans have lived as dragon-slayers since the times of their ancestors. Others make use of heartstones excavated from the ground, living on long-forgotten dragon graveyards. Regardless of their histories or circumstances, dragonoids are met with disdain from living dragons, who view their very existence as an affront.

Races with ties to dragons see things differently, however. Lizardfolk, kobolds and dragonborn often choose to become dragonoids as a way to reclaim what they perceive as their stolen birthright, or as a way to get back at the dragons that enslaved their peoples.

Dragonoid Form

Beginning at 3rd level, you take on a draconic visage whenever you rage, complete with scales, horns, claws, a meaty tail, and a small pair of vestigial wings. The appearance of these features is determined by your Draconic Blood. While in this form, you gain the following benefits:

  • You have resistance to damage of the type associated with your Draconic Blood. If you already have this resistance, you gain the following benefit instead:
Once per rage, when you would take damage of the type associated with your Draconic Blood, you may use your Reaction to gain immunity to that damage type until the end of the current turn.
  • While not using a shield, you gain a +1 bonus to your unarmored defense.
  • Your unarmed strikes can deal slashing damage equal to 1d6 + your Strength modifier on a hit.
  • At the start of each of your turns, you can deal 1d4 piercing damage to one creature grappled by you.

You can't manifest a feature while wearing armor unless the armor is made to accommodate it, and clothing not made to accommodate these features might be destroyed when you manifest them.

Dragon's Breath

Starting at 6th level, you gain the ability to bring forth the dragons' signature breath weapon while raging. Upon entering your Dragonoid Form , you gain 2 breath charges, which last until they are used or your rage ends. When you take the Attack action on your turn, you can expend the required number of charges to replace one of your attacks with one of the following breath weapon options:

Discreet Breath (1 charge). You spew draconic energy toward a creature you can see within 10 feet.
Wide Breath (2 charges). You exhale draconic energy in a 15-foot cone, effecting each creature in that area.

Creatures subjected to one of these breath weapons must make a Dexterity saving throw, the DC of which is equal to 8 + your Constitution modifier + your proficiency bonus. Creatures take 3d6 damage of the type which is determined by your Draconic Blood on a failed save, or half as much on a successful one. This damage increases when you reach certain levels in this class, increasing to 4d6 at 9th level, 5d6 at 13th level, and 6d6 at 17th level.

Once you use a breath weapon, you may not use one again until the start of your next turn, even if that breath weapon is provided by another spell or feature.

Emulated Grandeur

Starting at 10th level, you learn to reproduce a portion of the supremacy of a dragon to steel your heart and command respect from those around you.

You gain proficiency in the Intimidation skill. If you already have this proficiency, you may instead gain proficiency in one of the following skills of your choice: Animal Handling, Deception, or Persuasion. Whenever you make a Charisma (Intimidation) check against a creature that is not a dragon, your proficiency bonus is doubled for that check.

Additionally, while in your Dragonoid Form, you have advantage on saving throws against being frightened.

Dragon Wings

At 14th level, the wings of your Dragonoid Form grow large and powerful enough to become functional. While in this form, you now gain a flying speed equal to your current walking speed.
