Path of the Dragon Soul (5e Subclass)

Path of the Dragon Soul[edit]
Barbarian Subclass
By choice or not Barbarians who walk the Path of the Dragon Soul often find themselves as either a servant or victim of Occult worshippers, having been part of a vicious ritual that involves forcing the soul of a chromatic dragon into a humanoid body. While often killing the possessed as the chromatic dragon finds itself puppeteering the body, sometimes the victim survives, fighting for control over the new power writhing within them like a storm of elemental rage.
- Draconic Tongue
At 3rd level, you learn how to speak, read and write Draconic.
In addition, you gain proficiency in Intimidation, and can use your Constitution modifier, rather than Charisma, for your Charisma (Intimidation) checks.
- Raging Dragon Soul
When you take this path at 3rd level, you choose one type of dragon to determine the source of the soul interwoven with your own. The damage type associated with each dragon is used by features you gain later.
Dragon | Damage Type |
---|---|
Black | Acid |
Blue | Lightning |
Green | Poison |
Red | Fire |
White | Cold |
You can choose to make your bonus rage damage be the damage type associated with the dragon you choose.
In addition, when you take the Attack action, you can unleash the elemental soul of your chromatic dragon into a explosive burst of elemental energy. You can forgo one of your attacks made as part of that action to cause all creatures in a 15-foot cone, 20-foot line or 10-foot radius to make a Dexterity saving throw (DC 8 + your proficiency bonus + your Constitution modifier). On a failed save, all creatures take 2d8 damage, or half as much on a success.
This counts as an attack for the purposes of keeping your rage active.
- Elemental Wings
At 6th level, when you enter in rage or as a bonus action during a rage, you can invoke ghostly wings made of the elemental energy of your draconic soul. The wings last until the end of your next turn, and grant you a flying speed equal to your movement speed.
You can use your Elemental Wings once per rage.
- Draconic Avatar
At 10th level, while raging, your dragon soul image superimpose to your own during a rage. You gain resistance to the damage type related to your chosen dragon type while raging.
In addition, the dragon visage inspires fear in the hearts of your enemies. When you enter in rage, all hostile creatures within 30 feet able to see you must succeed on a Wisdom saving throw (DC 8 + your proficiency bonus + your Constitution modifier) or they are frightened by you for 1 minute or until your rage ends. The frightened creature can make another saving throw at the start of each of their turns to end the effect. A creature who succeeds this save is immune to this effect for 24 hours.
- Ascended Soul
At 14th level, you reach full mastery over your draconic soul. You gain the following benefits when you are raging:
- Your Raging Dragon Soul damage increases to 3d8, and you can forgo both attacks to use the feature.
- Your Elemental Wings give you a flying speed equal to twice your movement speed.
- Your Draconic Avatar feature now gives you immunity to the chosen damage type.
