Owlborn[edit]
“ | And a good hoot to you, sir! | ” |
Physical Description[edit]
From Fairy Tail by Hiro Mashima |
Owlborns humanoids that are taller than humans. Their heads appear to be completely owl-like, but they have tongues able to form human speech. They are not true owl creatures and therefor are more human than they are owl. For example, the scant amount of feathers on their underarms and forearms are too small to provide for flight. Their bodies are otherwise pretty much entirely human, with a propensity for low fat retainment. Therefore many of them tend to be very buff, to make up for their flightlessness. Owlborns like to feel free, and so too much clothing can be restrictive. Males tend to be comfortable with just pants and shoes. Females wear outfits humans may consider skimpy to feel as free as possible.
History[edit]
Owlborn are usually oddities that are born within the nests of the magical giant owls. They are never truly discovered until they hatch. Being the good natured creatures giant owls are, they often rear up the child as their own. Owlborns mature faster than giant owl babies, and giant owls will often send them off to go learn the ways of man, mainly those who are also good of heart that the giant owls trust. They often end up establishing themselves as warriors as opposed to scholars, due to their bearing for strength. Many joined monasteries and guilds to push forth the will of the inherent good which is instilled in them from their owl parent. A small village of owlborn was established from the accumulation of their sparse numbers in the Yuirwood, where they live under the patronage of Rillifane Rallathil of the Seldarine. They had initial scuffles with the encoraching human settlers on the peninsula of Aglarond at first, but now retain civil relations with their neighbors.
Society[edit]
To date, the Yuirwood is the only place where the owlborn are known to have their own village. Others are simply possibly wandering or living with their owl parents. Owlborns respect nature and value the safety of their home, as the enchanted wood prevents scrying abilities from penetrating. They conduct trade relations with the humans along the coast of the peninsula. They are a bit sore about how the Second Sundering and human activity had reduced the forest range to only the heart of Aglarond, but they are not quick to act on this chip on their shoulder. Like Rillifane, they are somber and slow to act unless given great reason to. As such, they are highly dependable allies, especially with their natural revulsion towards evil. For the longest time, they have been researching devices which would grant them the ability to fly, as magic does not come easy to them.
