The ooze spider is an odd creature formed by an ooze that joins loose debris together to form its body. Using loose stones and inorganic material, it gives itself a degree of protection at the cost of being unable to efficiently squeeze through small spaces like normal, more formless oozes. While they pose little threat on their own, their swarms are formidable. Armed with an acidic bite, swarms of these spiders drop on enemies and swarm their orifices to attack the soft parts and chemically mutilate unsuspecting victims. In its latent state, the spider ooze looks like a pile of nondescript stones, indistinguishable from natural phenomena. While active, the ooze binding its body forms a bit of color. Ooze Nature. A spider ooze doesn't require sleep. Variant: Swarm of Spider OozesA swarm of spider oozes is a Medium swarm of Tiny oozes, CR 1, with 38 (11d4 + 11) hit points. They retain their unaligned alignment, AC, and gain the following features: Swarm. The swarm can occupy another creature's space and vice versa, and the swarm can move through any opening large enough for a Tiny ooze. The swarm can't regain hit points or gain temporary hit points. The swarm's bite attack is replaced by the following: Bites. Melee Weapon Attack: +2 to hit, reach 0 ft., one target in the swarm's space. Hit: 10 (4d4) piercing damage and 7 (2d6) acid damage, or 5 (2d4) piercing damage and 3 (1d6) acid damage if the swarm has half of its hit points or fewer. |
