Oni[edit]
In a hidden chamber deep underground, the adventurers discovered a reliquary forgotten by time. In the center rested a mask adorned with intricate patterns in red and black, a testament to the ancient lineage of the Oni Generals. When touching it, they felt a pulsating dark energy that awakened ancient memories. Each adventurer glimpsed scenes from past battles, from the days when Oni Generals were living legends, and their masks were symbols of feared and respected power.

Physical Description[edit]
Though often mistaken for ogres in tales, Oni are slightly smaller in stature and possess a more natural muscular build. The color of their skin is determined by their lineage, which signifies the tribe they belong to. This can result in shades of red, blue, yellow, green, purple, orange, white, and black.
Their eyes bear a beastly quality, with irises that range from shades of scarlet and yellow to even entirely bright white. The sclera, or the whites of their eyes, is typically jet black. Dark hair covers their bodies, and even the females have a coat of hair.
Since the fall of the great Oni Generals, the race has become a shadow of its former self, a change that's also reflected in their physical forms. These Oni have a faded complexion, though it's important to note that they're not white Oni, but rather appear to be peeled or withered. Their eyes are dull, and their constitution is more bestial, with some needing assistance from their upper limbs for movement.
Oni possess a pair of short ivory horns jutting from their foreheads, which lengthen as they age. Their teeth and claws are jet black. The length of their horns is a source of pride among the Oni, to the extent that even the most unkempt among them are known to polish their horns daily.
History[edit]
The Onis are descendants of giants who mix with the native inhabitants of the shadow realm. Once upon a time, they stood as one of the most powerful forces on the Negative Plane, united by the collective strength of eight tribes under the rule of the Oni King, who controlled the power of Dark Chi.During the golden era of the Oni, their supremacy was unchallenged, until the soul-forged blades of the reformed Shinigami's brought about their downfall.
In the aftermath of their fall, the essence of the eight tribes was sealed within eight Oni masks, crafted from the skulls of the Grand Oni who served the King. These masks were then scattered across the material plane.
Now, the Oni race has regressed to a diminished state. Most Oni shun the safety of the surface, gripped by fear that the touch of light will turn their flesh to ash. They dwell primarily within the subterranean realms, hidden from the world above.
Society[edit]
Oni society is an intricate fabric of clans, traditions, and hierarchies, forged deep underground where they seek refuge from the threats of the world above. Organized into tribes based on skin color, Oni share a strong sense of unity and belonging within their groups. Each tribe has leaders, usually the direct descendants of ancient Oni Generals, who are respected and considered wise guides. Each tribe's unique abilities and powers shape its role in Oni society: the Reds are staunch defenders, the Blues are experts in dark magic, the Greens are healers and shamans, and so on.
Religion also plays a crucial role in the lives of the Oni, as they revere ancient spirits and dark entities, seeking guidance and power through complex rituals. Its religious leaders, known as Sombra-Shamans, interpret the signs of the spirits and offer spiritual guidance to the community.
The Oni society is based on traditions and rituals, with seasonal festivals that celebrate the memory of the Oni Generals and the achievements of their tribes. Honor and respect are core values, and disrespecting one member of the tribe is seen as an insult to the entire community. Despite the differences between tribes, the Oni unite in the face of external threats, remembering their glorious history and desire to protect their heritage.
However, since the fall of the Oni Generals, society has faced a period of decline and uncertainty. Many Oni fear exposure to light and avoid the surface at all costs, leading to increasing isolation. Some youth seek to find the lost mask of an Oni General, believing that such a feat could bring renewal and restore it to its former glory. As Oni society struggles to regain its strength and purpose, their traditions, loyalty, and desire for restoration remain the ties that bind them together in a world of shadow and mystery.
