Oath of the Nameless One (5e Subclass)
From D&D Wiki
Oath of the Nameless[edit]
(this subclass is intended to be a campaign specific subclass for a homebrew campaign. This subclass is meant to be a split between the Oath of Treachery and Oath of Redemption, but themed for an Unnamed Goddess, who is themed for Ice/Necrotic spells, and deceptional political intrigue)
Paladin Subclass
The Oath of the Nameless are followers of the Unnamed Goddess, bearing her mark in the form of a cold, clawed right arm, an ever constant reminder of her love for her (useful) followers, and serving as a Holy Symbol for paladin spells.
Tenets of the Nameless[edit]
- Neutrality. Remain on neither good nor bad, but what is logically the best course of action.
- Sacrifice. Power comes to those willing to give of themselves.
- Strength. History is written by the victors, ensure you are one.
- Secrecy. The name of the Unnamed Goddess is to remain as such, even to you, and your allegiance to her should remain the same.
Oath Spells[edit]
You gain oath spells at the paladin levels listed.
Paladin Level | Spells |
---|---|
3rd | magnify gravity, hex |
5th | crown of madness, pass without trace |
9th | sleet storm, spirit shroud |
13th | ice storm, sickening radiance |
17th | geas, cone of cold |
Channel Divinity[edit]
When you take this oath at 3rd level, you gain the following two Channel Divinity options.
- Blood Freeze. You can use your Channel Divinity to make your weapon deadlier. As a bonus action, you touch one melee weapon or piece of ammunition and conjure a wreath of ice onto it. The ice lasts for 1 minute. The next time you hit a target with an attack using that weapon or ammunition, the target takes cold damage immediately after the attack. The cold damage equals 2d10 + your paladin level, or 20 + your paladin level if you had advantage on the attack roll.
- Shattering Rebuke. You can use your Channel Divinity to rebuke those who use violence. Immediately after an attacker within 30 feet of you deals damage with an attack against a creature other than you, you can use your reactionto force the attacker to make a Wisdom saving throw. On a failed save, the attacker takes Cold damage equal to the damage it just dealt. On a successful save, it takes half as much damage.
Aura of Cold Treachery[edit]
Starting at 7th level, you emanate an aura of chilling discord, which gives you the following benefits.
Cull the Herd. You have advantage on melee attack rolls against any creature that has one or more of its allies within 5 feet of it.
Treacherous Strike. If a creature within 5 feet of you misses you with a melee attack, you can use your reaction to force the attacker to reroll that attack against a creature of your choice that is also within 5 feet of the attacker. The ability fails and is wasted if the attacker is immune to being charmed. You can use this ability three times, and regain expended uses of it when you finish a short or long rest.
Mother's Embrace[edit]
Starting at 15th level, the Unnamed One finds you exceptionally useful, mending your wounds in combat. You regain hit points equal to 1d6 + half your paladin level if you end your turn in combat with fewer than half of your hit points remaining and you aren’t incapacitated.
Graupel Sentinel[edit]
At 20th level, your clawed arm freezes over, the rime growing across your body. As an action, you transform into a staggering avatar of ice, gaining the following benefits for 1 minute:
- You have resistance to all damage dealt by other creatures (their attacks, spells, and other effects), aside from Fire damage.
- Whenever a creature hits you with an attack, it takes cold damage equal to half the damage you take from the attack, as the ice covering your body shatters back into the attacker..
- If you have advantage on an attack roll, you gain bonus damage equal to (half of*(rounded down)) your paladin level
Once you use this feature, you can’t use it again until you finish a long rest.
- This damage bonus was originally intended to be your full paladin level, per the Oath of Redemption, but can be adjusted for balancing reasons.
