Physical Description[edit]

Nyx are paradoxically stretched out and small creatures, despite on average being at a middling four-and-a-half feet tall, they are hardly squat. Long necks, stretched torsos, and arms that shamble down to the point that any Nyx can easily touch the ground while standing upright. They have long pointed ears that stretch out horizontally as wide or wider than their shoulders, one can also find a fair amount of variance in the shape of their earlobes, from simple nubbins to peculiar spikes and curls reaching out from beneath their ears. Their skin color varies from a sharkish green-grey to dull lavender. Nyx's teeth are quite sharp, but organized, with clear distinctions of Incisors, Canids, and Molars. Facial features often are considered sharp or piercing, not only virtue of their teeth, but general lack of any facial hair alongside their irises are often colored like some orchid of the feywild and ringed throughout. Their arms are disproportionate to their body, often as long or as thick as someone's well over a foot taller than them while their hands even bigger, their hands a similar testament to this, on average could fit their whole face within a single palm. While their arms stretch down almost the entire length of their body, their legs are short and small, often only as long as their torso. Their feet hold a close resemblance to that of hands, albeit sharper, thinner, and more clawlike. Their hair is generally smooth and flowing, seldom pigmented to the point that it'd be better considered transparent than white. While they grow plenty of hair on their scalp, tufts can be found down their torso or even forming into large spikes from their shoulders and elbows. There is no real physical distinction between male and female Nyx beyond reproductive organs. Their skin glimmers a fishlike opalescence when wet, and their hair is incredibly light, to the point that it behaves almost as though it was underwater as it flows through the air, giving the Nyx a generally ephemeral presence.

History[edit]

Nyx were sprung into life from the lurid fever dreams betwixt the Great Shards Ysso and Merlin. Wracked by a greedy and curious lust to invade one another and their respective realm, they mutually sunk into mad fantasy, unwittingly ravishing one another through the veil of divine dreams... Shortly after, these weirdos crawled out of the misty forests, bubbling coastlines, and foggy mornings of the material plane.

Society[edit]

Nyx seldom interact with one another, much less build societies with each other. Instead of building a society together, they will assume a second identity of a person from a culture or peoples they find a great affinity towards and integrate within it. They seldom seem to change the second identity once they have a good hang of it, overtime they may completely forget their original form, fully adopting their new identity, despite the species average lifespan. Often leading to what seems to be a shortlived elf or an incredibly old human fading into mist at their death. Their second form is almost transformative, while they can physically change shape of the target creature, the veneer is illusory, and with sharp enough eyes, one will find a rather eerie visage, bodies almost alike any other, but their extremities fading into translucency, their movements almost shimmering like a mirage, a Nyx's face will often be bubbling into a dark smoke, uncoordinated bright eyes peering out from within it. Due to the manner of their inception to the material plane, they innately magical and are found to be greedy, curious, and often lascivious. What Nyx lust after is incredibly varied, from treasures, mundane baubles, peoples, information, art... each nyx's obsession you would find would be unique to the other, but all equally potent.

Some Nyx will avidly keep their sense of their original self, often tattooing their body in a series of symbols or notes to keep things in check/identify themselves. It also allows them to keep a hold of their body when transformed, the darker tattoos keeping the fading at bay. Due to this Nyx will often tattoo their most beloved part of themselves to keep it intact, most commonly their face or dominant hand.

Nyx/Nyxie Names[edit]

Nyxie names are generally 1-3 syllables, consonants often focusing on fricatives and plosives (K's,F's,X's,V's) while followed with long vowels. A Nyx's will seldom ever have a surname until they take another people's name. Often the first name of their second identity is an anagram of their original or at least based off their original name, most commonly just their original reversed (Tirfi/Ifrit) Nyxian naming customs are not distinguishable by gender, though they will try and form their assumed name to fit the naming customs of the peoples they're emulating.

Those with truesight or succeed on an Intelligence(Investigation) check against your spell save DC can see through those parts. (Charisma is the spellcasting ability for this spell.) As an action, you can transform into this identity or revert to your natural form or drop the illusory nature of the spell.
