Noble, Variant[edit]

This variant of the noble background is far more demanding and based on the haughty nature they had in history. Not only must people fawn over you and keep your interests at heart, but they owe even their lifeblood to you. A baron who visits a household situated on his land need not pay even if he devours their entire pantry. The peasants must suck it up and bear with their caprice. Nobility extends great power as a social status over those below you. Those on the same level as you are less likely to be as accommodating. Usually, it is mandatory you will end up sharing the same social circles, but you do not owe each other any other favors.

Most other aspects of this background are the same as the official noble background. However, because this background variant makes use of NPCs heavily and grants more wordly benefits, it is highly recommended a player using this discuss everything with their DM beforehand.

Skill Proficiencies: Persuasion and History

Tool Proficiencies: one musical instrument or one type of gaming set

Equipment: A set of fine clothes, a piece of jewelry with your family sigil, the deed to a keep or compound, and a pouch containing 30 gp.

Feature: Lands and Followers[edit]

You own a compound or keep and rule over the citizens and serfs. When in these lands you own, you can get board and food for free, and many of the shop keeps and traders will charge you next to nothing. You know of neighboring lords and may have commune with them about rulership as well as exchanges, or even be waging your own battles against them.
