Night Hag's Daughter (5e Race)
From D&D Wiki
Night Hag's Daughter[edit]
When someone calls their mother a monster, they don't usually mean they are literally a monster. Hagborns are one of the rare exceptions and none is more unfortunate than a Night Hag's Daughter. Doomed to be tormented by nightmares caused by their mother until they break and become evil like her... or run away to forge their own path through this cruel world.
A Night Hag's Daughter is the rare offspring of a cruel and wicked Night Hag and her unsuspecting victim, the Hagborns father. Always female, these Hagborn spawns are always torn between the fiendish lifestyle of their mother and the moral soul they were gifted at birth by their father at birth.
Physical Description[edit]
The Night Hag's Daughter resembles the race of her father, the fate of which is never entirely known to them. However, it can be assumed in most cases that the Hag killed or ate their daughter's father. Many even take on a few racial traits associated with the father they've never met.
If the father is an Elf, you will look and age like an elf until your 13th birthday.
If your father is a Human, you will look and age like a human until your 13th birthday.
Tiefling, Halfling, and so on and so forth. The point is you look just like your probably deceased daddy.
Depending on your alignment: you will either rapidly turn into a hag, looking just as grotesque as your mother, upon reaching your 13th birthday (evil) or continue looking like the race of your father (neutral or good).
History[edit]
Night Hags are wicked witches that dwell in the Lower Planes causing Nightmares and pain wherever they go. They are horrendously hideous beings who are literally what nightmares are made out of. These monsters are your sleep paralysis demon that comes to visit late at night. They haunt dreams with their foul magic and have the ability to inflict diseases on their victims. They have a taste for flesh, souls, and dreams.
Due to how undeniably cruel and hideous they are, their Hagborn daughters are often the product of forced sexual intercourse with a poor unfortunate creature that's caught the eye of the Night Hag. Usually, it's because the father's dreams are delicious. Depending on the Night Hags mood, she may allow him to live after the event or kill and eat him.
When a Night Hag Falls Pregnant, she usually abandons her child shortly after birth. However, some decide to raise their daughters and groom them into becoming the next generations of Night Hags to continue reaping havoc on the dream realm for years to come.
Society[edit]
Night Hag's Hagborn Daughters are an incredibly small race of halfbreeds, they're nearly nonexistent, and most will never see a Hagborn in person, let alone a Night Hagborn. Even good-natured Hagborns prefer to live in solitude due to the stigma and prejudice surrounding their race.
The Night Hag's daughter's magic begins to manifest on the eve of her 13th birthday. It usually manifests by her unknowingly dream walking for the first time.
From then on their mother begins training them to become the next generation of hags. Their mothers will do anything to turn their daughters evil so that they will become hags just like them. A Night Hag's Daughter's childhood is not a happy or secure one. It's a traumatic one that very few manage to survive to adulthood without becoming monsters themselves.
Upon reaching their 13th birthday, their mother will conduct a ceremony to transform them into full-blooded Night Hags. Those of evil alignments turn into hags almost immediately, those of neutral alignments may or may not turn, and those of good alignments don't turn into hags at all because they don't hold enough evil in their hearts.
If the hag mother sees their child not turn into a hag they are either immediately disowned and killed by their mother or are kept around and treated as pets, slaves or lackeys.
Many of the Good Alignment run away from home to avoid such a heinous fate, however, they are still haunted by those years of training to become evil.
A Hagborn will often face untold amounts of prejudice and discrimination if the populous learns of their unsavory origins. However, it is often impossible to tell a Hagborn apart from the race of their father.
Night Hag Blood[edit]
Your creature type is both humanoid and fiend.
You must beware of straying to the dark side of your thoughts and desires or one day even the most docile and kind-hearted Hagborn could find themselves transforming into the disgusting and horrifying monster their mother is. Commit one too many bad deeds and you're doomed. Doing Evil is in your blood but that doesn't mean you have to listen to your blood. You're able to become your own person.
Hagborn Names[edit]
Hags who keep their children often give them the strangest baby names at birth. They call them things like "Little Mousy Girl", "Little Rat", "One who smells like milk", "Little Crying Sparrow" and other such strange monikers. The Nickname usually involved something about their daughter's personality and comparing them to some kind of small animal.
A Hagborn will often take on a new name if they escape their mother's clutches. Usually, the name is from the race they take after.
