Innate Spellcasting (1/Day). The needleback can innately cast spike storm (spell save DC 10), requiring no material components. Its innate spellcasting ability is Charisma. When the needleback casts the spell in this way, the damage is reduced to 6 (1d12).

Needle Body. A creature that touches the needleback or hits it with a melee attack while within 5 feet of it takes 2 (1d4) piercing damage.

ACTIONS

Needle. Melee or Ranged Weapon Attack: +3 to hit, reach 5 ft. or range 20/60 ft., one target. Hit: 5 (1d8 + 1) piercing damage.


All needlebacks take the needles that cover their bodies as a blessing, not a curse the same for their dagger like claws and their giant jaws.

Spiky Survivors. Needlebacks inhabit the Underdark and are extremely distrustful of strangers, given that they regularly encounter the terrible evil of the drow, mind flayers and many, many more.
