The moonlight butterflies are giant, carnivorous butterflies that live in volcanic environments. They resemble most ordinary butterflies, but with a mandibled mouth instead of a proboscis and giant claws on their limbs. Their intricately patterned wings are covered in a dusty powder that resembles ash. Moonlight butterflies are both hunters and scavengers, preying on whatever creatures they can find that are either small or already dead. They live in large groups of five to twelve members and hunt cooperatively, attacking with flurries of claw swipes. While they are not known to attack humanoids especially, care should be taken when walking their habitats during the night, when the butterflies are most active.
