Momentum Leech (5e Class)
From D&D Wiki
Momentum Leech[edit]
Rory rested his sword atop his shoulder as he stared down the magic-fueled construct. The thing's feet crunched upon the dirt and stone beneath it as it approached. He had heard it was designed for speed, and that it ravaged cities and small towns alike as it sprinted across the land. But its path of destruction would end here. The metal creature charged at the leather armored warrior, and Rory touched its chest, sapping away all its movement. The construct was frozen in place, its sharp claws inches away from the man's hazel and blue eyes. Using the energy he gained from this unwilling benefactor, he swung his weapon in a blur of motion, too fast for most mortals to keep track of, and decapitated the construct with one single strike.
Momentum Leeches, or "Leeches", are known for their ability to steal others' speed and convert it into raw power to use in conjunction with devastating attacks. Close combat and striking opponents as they lunge to strike is how they typically do things, though some have the ability to imbue it into their projectiles. Races meant for muscle, such as goliaths, orcs, or dwarves, are well suited to this class, though other races have been able to become Leeches given enough time and training.
Creating a Momentum Leech[edit]
How did you gain your ability to steal others' speed? Was it taught to you by a fellow Leech, did you learn it yourself, or did you receive it from something or someone else?
- Quick Build
You can make a Momentum Leech quickly by following these suggestions. First, Constitution should be your highest ability score for your Leeching ability, followed by Strength or Dexterity based on your subclass. Second, choose the Soldier background.

Leeching[edit]
The core technique of the Momentum Leech is to steal his opponent's speed using Leeching. Once per creature per turn, when you hit a creature with a melee attack, you can steal (5 x your Constitution modifier) feet of the target's speed or less, and their speed is reduced by the amount stolen until the end of their next turn.
You can then use that stolen movement to move as if it was added to your base speed, or with your Momentum Burst feature. Any stolen speed that is not used disappears at the end of your turn. Dashing will increase your movement speed by (Base Speed + Leeched Momentum), rather than by your base speed. If your Leeched target uses the Dash action, it will increase the target's movement speed by (Base Speed - Leeched Momentum).
The amount you can Leech from any target increases to (10 x your Con mod) feet at 6th level, (15 x your Con mod) feet at 11th level, and (25 x your Con mod) feet at 17th level. You can only store up to (Max Leeched Momentum + (5 x your Con mod)) Leeched speed, and it increases as shown on the table above.
Momentum Burst[edit]
At 2nd level, you learn a few ways to use your speed to enhance your effectiveness in combat. You gain the following features. You can only use these abilities if you have the requisite amount of movement to use them.
- Swift Strike
- You can spend 30 feet of movement to make a melee attack as a bonus action.
- Charger
- You can spend 10 feet of movement to Disengage, 15 movement to Dash, or 25 movement to Dodge as a bonus action.
- Divide
- When you hit a creature, you can spend up to (20 x your Strength mod) feet of movement. For every 15 feet of movement spent, you deal 1 extra damage to your target.
Leecher Archetype[edit]
At 3rd level, you choose a Leecher Archetype. Choose between Blaster, Compactor, or Dasher, all detailed at the end of the class description. Your choice grants you features at 3rd and again at 7th, 10th, 15th, and 18th level.
Ability Score Improvement[edit]
When you reach 4th level, and again at 8th, 12th, 16th and 19th level, you can increase one ability score of your choice by 2, or you can increase two ability scores of your choice by 1. As normal, you can't increase an ability score above 20 using this feature.
Extra Attack[edit]
Beginning at 5th level, you can attack twice, instead of once, whenever you take the Attack action on your turn.
The number of attacks increases to three when you reach 11th level in this class and to four when you reach 20th level in this class.

Blaster[edit]
Blasters, rather than liking to get up close and personal, choose to use their Leeched speed to improve the effectiveness of their projectiles, and they can Leech their enemies from afar.
- Lengthy Leeching
Starting at 3rd level, you can use your Leeching ability with both melee and ranged attacks. In addition, you can use Swift Strike to make either a melee or ranged attack as a bonus action. Lastly, you can use your Dexterity modifier when determining how much movement you can spend on Divide.
