The Mogul Locomotive is the most recent innovation in transportation technology, as the world finally makes its way into the pre-industrial age. Moguls are powered by steam, requiring that they have enough coal to burn to power its engine (100gp of coal will be enough to move a Mogul atleast 100 miles before it needs another supplement). A Mogul’s crew consists of a conductor, two engineers and atleast one crew member per car that the locomotive is pulling. The Mogul is mostly designed for cargo transport but it can have some of its cargo space converted into passenger spaces. With unprecedented power, it is unmatched in efficiency for moving cargo and people across long distances. However, the maneuverability of the locomotive is limited, due to the fact that it cannot move unless on a set of railroad tracks (hence guided maneuverability) this also means that a Mogul can only move forward and backward along the tracks. Terrain and storm weather (excluding severe weather: see below) does not impede the speed or maneuverability of a Mogul, but can reduce the efficiency and safety of its brakes and machinery. As such, a Mogul is vulnerable to chill and heat metal spells or similar effects. In a powerful storm, a Mogul’s speed may be reduced to ¾ its original value. A Mogul cannot move if a significant force is present along its path (mounds of snow, rubble, sand, etc).
Stopping a Mogul that is moving at full or ¾ speed is a full round action the Mogul will move its maximum distance (or ¾ in a case of reduced speed) for that round before coming to a complete stop. Slippery, icy, ruined or (in some cases) melted railroad tracks, can cause a Mogul to lose its baring and go out of control, leaving the tracks and toppling over, however whether or not the Mogul is thrown off track or merely has its speed reduced is entirely up to DM’s discretion.
