Mizton (5e Race)
From D&D Wiki
Mizton[edit]
Physical Description[edit]
Mizton are a race of humanoid big cats. They have faces either resembling like that of a lion's or a tiger's, with coats having stripes, rosette designs or just plain coats. Miztons have manes that can take the form similar to a human's hair, growing on their heads, with males having facial hair. Coat colors can be tawny, black, white, yellow, or, more rarely, crimson. They have large eyes that can see in the dark and come in brown, grey, blue, green, red, yellow or purple. Mizton have large paws and hands, both with retractable claws. They have large mouths lined with sharp teeth for tearing at meat and tongues covered in tiny spines. They have tails which may end in a tassel. Both genders have lithe, muscular bodies, allowing them to use seemingly oversized weapons. The most distinct feature of a mizton are two pairs of short horns grow out during puberty, too short to be used as a weapon. Males have slightly longer horns.
History[edit]
It is believed the mizton are relatives of the kirre. Some call them "lesser kirre," as they are smaller and not quite as psionically able as the true kirre. They are a naturally occurring race within the forests near mountains and rocky areas. Like bobcats, they functioned as the predators of their areas. At a time, hunters used to hunt them for meat, believing it to be as fine as kirres. It was tough and stringy, not at all very palatable. Mizton thus came to just be hunted for sport or containment, as they had a tendency to attack settlements encroaching on their territory. As magic came to be readily available to hunters and rangers, the mizton realized the need to progress or risk extinction. Thus, a select few every year are sent out. They can walk bipedally and enter the cities, vanguards of the rising races, alongside other beasts. There, they learned of things like magic and tools and industry. They eagerly await to bring this information back to better their own clans back home.
Society[edit]
Mizton are natural wanderers, looking for prey and new challenges. The individual is taught to excel in their own fields, regardless if it's soldiering, magic or even something a mundane as carpentry. They must challenge themselves to become better people and therefore excel and live good lives as adversity is a fundamental fact of life. This sets them apart from their peers. They may care for their small family clans, but they are ultimately self-interested creatures.
Cuisine[edit]
Due to the mainly carnivorous nature of the mizton, a mizton dinner consists of game birds, fish, beef, pork. They are known to hunt loxodons in the wild, as elephant meat is a delicacy. The mizton will add certain plants like cacao or peppers to their dishes for favor. They are known to have set up large forms for the purpose of keeping larger animals penned in to be bred and turned to food. Miztons prefer prey that is even larger than them for the purpose of quantity. It is considered a bit of a failure on the part of a mizton if they cannot singlehandedly catch a large meal, as solitary hunting is a praised trait.
Religion[edit]
Religion to miztons is a foreign concept, as worshipping a god to them is odd. That isn't to say mizton lack beliefs, as the majority of mizton believe in the ideal of self-determinism, in which only the individual can decide for themselves and that and each individual's own path is mutually exclusive to another's. A mizton raised by other races can worship a god but a mizton in any cleric's flock is rare. The mizton don't ask questions about creation since they do not understand religion as others do. Without a patron deity and only self-determination, the mizton spread out through the world, challenging themselves to forge themselves in the fire to improve themselves and lead fulfilling lives.
Mizton Names[edit]
Mizton have two names, a given name and a nickname. Mizton names usually begin with the letters G, H, K, L or Z and have a nickname after a physical feature or personality trait to the effect of "Burningeyes" or "Tawnycoat" affixed to the end of their names.
