Mist Walkers[edit]

Personality[edit]

Mist Walkers are people of many races that have been branded with a curse in some way. Either by a Deity, Cult or Spirit. Usually having a brand along the neck symbolizes a curse. The curse in question varies from person to person. Almost always permanent since it marks the soul of the host. Usually treated as a disease they are commonly scorned by their peers. Usually even by their own families as well. Making them outcasts that learn to survive on their own or perish in the world. This has made the surviving Mist Walkers strong and resilient. As such they are normally requested as mercenaries and bounty hunters. Some have even cut themselves off to become monks and rangers. Hiring them for tasks that will kill them is considered a mercy as it shortens the suffering of the host. When Mist Walkers are branded they normally gain the abilities of an animal. Looking rather close to resembling a therianthropic (or "thrope") of some kind. This takes the shape of a Wolf, Bear, Ox, Horse, or Leopard. This transforms them into humanoids of that animal and is not a reversible process.

Physical Description[edit]

Normally 6ft to 9ft in height, and 270 lbs to 350 lbs in weight Their skin color depends on the original race, as well as the original eye color. Almost always covered in fur from resembling the cursed animal.

Relations[edit]

Since they are normally cursed and viewed as outcasts. The only interaction they usually have with other races is for a fatal job of some sort. However, there have been notes of "packs" of Mist walkers living together in small or medium-sized groups. Also, it has been noted that when two of the same species type have bread both cursed and non-cursed children. These non-cursed children are orphaned into shelters by their parents to have a normal life. Also sometimes in rare cases, these children have stayed with their parents. Usually becoming skilled rangers and druids.

  • Branded Rage(Ex):- You glow with an unholy light giving you a -8 to Hide, and Move Silently. This ability can be used 1/encounter and lasts for 4 turns. While it is active you gain a +7 to hit and +1d12 to damage. Can only be applied to hand based weapons.
  • Skills: Mist Walkers have a +4 racial bonus on Survival checks when tracking by scent.
  • Ferocity(Ex): - Is such a tenacious combatant that it continues to fight without penalty even while disabled or dying.
  • 3e SRD:Improved Grab(Ex):-If the creature hits with a melee weapon (usually a claw or bite attack), it deals normal damage and attempts to start a grapple as a free action without provoking an attack of opportunity. No initial touch attack is required, and Tiny and Small creatures do not suffer a special size penalty. Unless otherwise stated, improved grab works only against opponents at least one size category smaller than the creature. The creature has the option to conduct the grapple normally, or simply use the part of its body it used in the improved grab to hold the opponent. If it chooses to do the latter, it suffers a -20 penalty to grapple checks and can use its remaining attacks against other opponents.

A successful hold does not deal any additional damage unless the creature also has the constrict ability. If the creature does not constrict, each successful grapple check it makes during successive rounds automatically deals the damage listed for the attack that established the hold. Otherwise, it deals constriction damage as well (the amount is listed in the creature’s descriptive text). When a creature gets a hold after an improved grab attack, it pulls the opponent into its space. This act does not provoke attacks of opportunity. The creature is not considered grappled while it holds the opponent, so it still threatens adjacent squares and retains its Dexterity bonus. It can even move (possibly carrying away the opponent), provided it can drag the opponent’s weight.

  • Unnatural Claws(Ex) -With the Branded form you gain +1d6 additional damage when using attacks that use your hands. Refer to SRD:Natural Weapons
  • Cursed Hunger(Ex) -Once per encounter if a Mist Walker is within a distance of 4 or more corpses. It has a compulsive urge to feed. This will last one to two rounds depending on a DC20 Will Save. If the Mist Walker succeeds the save it only feeds for one round. If it fails it feeds for two rounds. This gains the Mist Walker 1d8 per odd class level of healing per round it feeds (Ex: 1x1d8 at level 1, 2x1d8 at level 3 ). But during that time it cannot take any other actions and is considered 3e SRD:Flat-Footed losing its Dex to AC.
  • Automatic Languages: Common and language matching the base race.
