Mind brutes are mind flayers that have been warped by years of alchemical and psychic alteration by their kin. Transformation into a mind brute is viewed as a punishment among illithids, as the future mind brute's intellect and psychic powers are dulled, leaving only mindless loyalty and a fractured mind on the brink of insanity. |
