What looks like a chest or door at first glance and a mimic at second glance might actually be a mim-like; when small, burrowing, humanoids began to dig into ruins, beholder lairs, and dragon dens, they needed to adapt and decided to copy one of the most successful species in the new habitat: the mimic. Mim-likes grew tough but adhesive shells that they could attach scraps of wood or metal to in order to gain the appearance of normal objects. Appearance. The mim-like has a compact human shaped body with milk white skin, a large toothless mouth, and 2 small eyes that resemble black dots. They also have developed powerful crab like pincers at the ends of their unusually long and flexible arms. The arms are kept coiled up inside their shell and shoot forth at high speeds when it's time to fight. Most of a mim-like's body is hidden underneath its grey, angular, shell which would roughly fit in a five-foot cube. The shell is usually disguised as a normally occurring element of its territory such as a wood crate or statue. Nest. Using their quick hardening slime, mim-likes can create a larger scale version of their shell camouflage to use as a nest. The inside of the nest is filled with soft fabrics and mosses as well as small compartments where each individual member of the nest can sleep and keep their extra disguises. They will also often create disguises made from the rarest or shiniest materials available that they will wear in the nest as an act of dominance. The entrance to a nest may appear to just be another part of the wall but it is actually a group of mim-likes on guard duty. |
