Mid-22nd Century (Rabetea Supplement)
From D&D Wiki
MID-21st ACCOMPLISHMENTS[edit]
By the mid-2000s home televisions evolved into combined television, entertainment, gaming and communicative devices. They acquired cameras that enabled visual telephones via bluetooth and on-board computer capacity. The enhancements improved home security systems for home security and monitoring the health of household inhabitants, including pets. Improvements in robotics turns the home into automated homes once thought of as Science Fiction.
The ordinary civilian remains oblivious to how the governments are puppets of megacorporations. Ordinary civilians spend much time in virtual reality via their phones and televisions, addicted to more interesting pursuits. Working remotely improves the surveillance of the average citizen with them remaining unaware of a digital ‘home invasion’ when it occurs. Databanks of information is used to corner markets and ferret out potential “domestic terrorists” that threatens megacorporate security.
Simple implants, bionics, artificial intelligence, and other “fictional” technology became reality. Megacorporations place orbital lasers around the globe on the pretense of eliminating “space junk” from prior decades. The secondary pretense involved a defense for eliminating NEO (Near Earth Orbit) objects as threats to Earth itself.
Transportation is automated. “Manual” driving is operator optional. More livestock is cloned to keep up with the demand. Some livestock is genetically modified for use on the lunar colonies.
Orbital are created with appended annexes developed for hydroponic farming and industry. Lunar colonies spring up for mining. The lunar colonies also incorporate annex areas for hydroponic farming. Technology to shield the orbital and lunar structures develop to shield them from a https://www.space.com/the-carrington-event.
The veil between Parascape and Midgard begins waning. Ordinary civilians are more accepting of “fantasy” beings (either ‘other dimensional beings’ or ‘aliens’) as the latest fad in bio-sculpting.
Towards the end of the century, noted advancements in ‘Fusion’ began the phasing out of ‘Fission’ power.
MID-21st THE DOWNSIDE[edit]
Ordinary civilians experience “techno-shock” as a reality foretold in various “old” science fiction stories and movies. Many lose the ability to interact with other humans; even talking becomes troublesome without texting while seated across a table. Manufacturing is overrun by robotics. Unemployment and homelessness is rampant. Due to the rampant unemployment, violence breaks out frequently. Martial Law is enforced. Two more major plagues put Earth’s inhabitants into “lock down”.
Environmentally, garbage islands increase in the oceans. Changing mean temperatures melt more of the polar icecaps. Various areas across the globe experience frequent famines. Various areas around the “ring of fire” experience more earthquakes and volcanic eruptions.
22nd CENTURY ACHIEVEMENTS[edit]
Fusion technology is improved. The first Fusion reactor goes on-line in Australia during the first quarter of the century. The second quarter of the century sees the gradual dismantling of out-dated Fission reactors.
Asteroid colonies and mining are added to Humankind’s list of accomplishments. Full immersion Virtual Reality is common place. User’s memories are digitized during visits to VR; the user is unaware of this.
In the first half of the century, “sleeper” ships are sent to Mars to install colonial habitats. The three vessels were christened: SS Tereshkove, SS Savitskaya, and SS Sally Ride (honoring the first female astronauts). The ships touched down and was declared a success nine months later. Six years after the launch, SS Sharman, SS Bondar and SS Mukai (honoring first female astronauts of United Kingdom, Canada, and Japan).
Humankind is in Progress Level 6 and advancing to early stages of Progress Level 6.

The Pre-cataclysm synopsis may be tweaked for a Cyberscape or early space exploration style campaigns.
