Mentia (5e Race)
From D&D Wiki
Mentia[edit]
Physical Description[edit]
Physically Mentia are a humanoid species very similar to humans. The only differences are skin color which is typically varying shades of grey, eye color which are usually reds, purples, and turquoise, and hair color which are black, white, and browns. In addition, all Mentia are born with tattoo like markings beneath their mouths and sometimes extending to their jaw and/or neck. These "tattoos" can come in any number of patterns and complexity but always involve four lines extending from the bottom lip of the Indvidual. These lines represent the number of other selves they can become and can change as the Mentia use their ability to split, four lines means no splitting has occurred, two lines mean they have split once into two separate beings, and one line means that they have split into four separate individuals.
History[edit]
Mentia we’re originally humans living on the large volcanic island of Hua’Matia. The island itself gave off a strong magical aura that permeated everything that lived on it. The people who lived on Hua’Matia began to develop physical and metaphysical changes. Their skin, eyes and hair changed colors, they developed strange tribal like markings, and as one of their tribal elders described "Our people's souls have become too much for one mortal vessel to contain them". After accepting these new abilities and adapting to life as multiple people more often than not they lived harmoniously with the island and the sea for generations. one day word got to the mainland about this magical island and its inhabitant's fantastical abilities. This caught the ear of a crazed cult leader who wanted this power for himself, so he gathered his followers and hired mercenaries to take the island or in failing that to retrieve the source of its magic. Many died on both sides of this conflict, but it seemed the Mentia would win the day, unfortunately the cult leader a powerful dark sorcerer in his own right tried to use his magic to call forth and steal the islands power which he found lies at the heart of the volcano that formed Hua'Matia millennia ago. His meddling stirring the ancient giant from its slumber the island began to rumble, smoke and ash pouring from the summit of the volcano the Mentia knew what this meant and began to evacuate but only half of their people made it off before their worst fears were realized when the volcano let loose a massive eruption that engulfed the whole island. In seconds the cult leader, his minions, and half of the indigenous peoples were gone nothing but ash and molten lava slowly sinking into the sea. After this tragedy some of the Mentia set out to make new homes on other islands while others chose to integrate into human societies.
Society[edit]
Most Mentia live on their adopted island homes or on the sea full time with their own ships. Others chose to live in small communities within larger cities keeping to themselves and their customs (much like the IRL "little Italy's or China Towns of our world). The Mentia have a sort of polyamorous society usually with multiple partners or a polyamorous relationship with one other person though split into multiple couples due to their ability to divide. Anywhere these communities spring up be it island or city they follow a small "counsel" of respected community members they may be elders or perhaps simply charismatic individuals. Most other civilized races of the world regard them with a certain degree of curiosity and fascination at their abilities. Sometimes they are mistaken for Drow much to their annoyance.

Ability Score Increase. Your Constitution score increases by 2 and your Intelligence score increases by 1.
Age. Mentia mature around the age of 18 and age the same as humans.
Alignment. due to their history and well-earned distrust of strangers the tend to lean towards neutrality keeping out of conflicts.
Size. Mentia are the size of humans your size is medium.
Speed. Your base walking speed is 30 ft you have a swimming speed of 25 feet.
Four-dimensional thinking. You are a being able to think from multiple perspectives at once and see problems from different angles you can come up with unique solutions to complicated problems. You are proficient with intelligence saving throws. Although if any spell or ability that targets the mind such as "charm" or "hideous laughter" succeeds on you or your other selves it affects all of your bodies with the Conditions but not damage if there is any.
Magical Mitosis. You are capable of splitting into four identical copies of yourself and are one being in multiple bodies you see what they see, hear what they hear, and know what they know. As an action you can split yourself into two identical individuals, one of which is your primary body. You and your "clone" can divide one more time for a total of four separate beings. You can only divide or remerge once per turn. As you split HP is divided equally from the current hit points of the body that is splitting and any remaining HP is added back upon remerging, (Example having four "clones" currently active means all bodies have 1/4 your maximum hit points or if three of your bodies remerge leaving one behind it would be an uneven split of hit points, one with 3/4 and the other with 1/4). A "clone" would be created with copies of all your equipment; however, they do not come with any magical effects other than those affecting attack, damage rolls, and AC (i.e., a cloned Vorpal Sword would merely be a +3 Sword and a cloned Broom of Flying would not have the magical effect of its original.) All cloned items would dissipate if the copy drops the item for more than a minute or they remerge. In addition, spell slots and feats with charges are also divided equally much like hit points though if there are not enough spell slots to divide equally, they become inaccessible until you remerge. To remerge physical contact must be made between two of yourselves. Your other selves have the same attributes and skills you do. A "clone" has no range limit as to how far they can be away from the Primary body and no time limit to how long they can be apart. In addition, they must split once per day to relive the stress of being in one body for too long or they will suffer from one point of exhaustion each day until they do.
People of The Sea. Your people learned long ago how to live in harmony with the sea, and you are no different, the lessons of your ancestors have taught you well. You have a swim speed of 25 feet, you can hold your breath for 10 minutes + your Constitution modifier. you also have proficiency with water-based vehicles.
Languages. You can speak, read, and write Common and Menhoa the ancestral language of your people.
