Physical Description[edit]
Meif'wa are humanoid beasts of typically agile, slender builds. They possess fair skin that stands against richly pigmented hair and bright, cunning eyes but perhaps their most distinguishing feature is their silky, long fur-lined ears and thick tails that are just as richly colored. Their fur is adorned with intricate and bright patterns which are said to be the source of a Meif'wa's magical power. When they die, these patterns turn to a colourless, dull grey unless especially preserved. In addition, they have animalistic and slender fox-like legs that are covered with fur from bellow the knee whilst the thighs remain humanoid. On each hand and foot, they have sets of sharp, dark claws and their mouths hide equally sharp fangs.
History[edit]
For centuries were the Meif'wa hunted like animals for their uniquely colored pelts until at last, they found solace under the protection of the newly-founded BlackSun Dynasty - their unusual and largely undocumented form of monarchy. The tall walls of their small kingdom kept the few survivors safe, and within those walls they healed amongst their tight-knit community. However, even that small shred of peace did not last. A Meif'wa alchemist nicknamed 'Rubedo' with an eye for revenge sought to use his knowledge to enhance his race into an invulnerable army. Inadvertently, this led to a tragedy that turned all of those who were experimented on into mad, disfigured monsters - a condition that was later named the Red Death. It wasn't long before the walls of the Blacksun Dynasty crumbled from the inside leaving the too-few survivors to run for their lives once more in search of a new home.
The effects of the alchemy are still felt today, even if Meif'wa have gone back to being hunted like animals. Most of the Meif'wa descendants have inherited some form of the Red Death, leaving them with disfigured bodies that quickly eat at their life force. At this rate, its only a matter of time before the Meif'wa people cease to exist.
Attitudes and Beliefs[edit]
Although Mief'wa society is no more, the customs and beliefs built within the walls of the BlackSun Dynasty are still prevalent in its descendants, particularly their values on family. Even though Mief'wa settlements don't exist - especially because large groups attract hunters and poachers - Mief'wa tend to lead nomadic lives close to their immediate family, if they have any. Even those who travel alone have a yearning for that sense of belonging and affection, and it is something that they would absolutely kill to protect. Just as strong as their love for family is their scorn for alchemy. It being the very thing that tore them apart, the Meif'wa despise alchemy and look down at those who practice it. If you're lucky you might find a Meif'wa who begrudgingly tolerates its use but they certainly won't be too happy about it.
Despite their blind hatred, the Mief'wa people have had to grow sharp and wise over the years to avoid getting caught by anyone hunting them for their fur. Since they are unable to settle, they have made the wilderness their home, and know how to survive in their home climate like a second instinct. As such, they have built a special connection with nature over the years, and any who disrespect it will likely fall an ill fate at their clawed hands. Unfortunately, because Meif'wa are silent killers that prefer to avoid the eye of anyone but themselves, they have garnered quite the reputation. Most people believe that Meif'wa are savage and unintelligent creatures with beautiful pelts, making them quite the prize hunt. Where in reality, they are a fully sentient and intelligent people. This has led to many misconceptions and false rumors about them.
Meif'wa Names[edit]
Given that only a few Meif'wa know their mother language fluently - since most Meif'wa have adopted the Common tongue for the sake of simplicity - naming conventions often involve descriptors and adjectives in Meif'wan that most Meif'wa still know. As such, children are typically named by the age of 10, where most of their physical and personality features start to spurt.
