Maverick, Variant (5e Subclass)
From D&D Wiki
Maverick (Fix)[edit]
A fix for the Maverick subclass.
The Maverick subclass of the Artificer, found in the Exploring Eberron|Exploring Eberron sourcebook by Keith Baker, leaves much to be desired. The following changes should make it a more competitive option for Artificers.
- Tools of the Trade
Starting at 3rd level, you gain proficiency with the Arcana skill and Calligrapher's Supplies. If you are already proficient with either of these, you may choose another skill or tool with which to gain proficiency, as appropriate.
- Arcane Breakthroughs
You retain this feature as described, except that you also gain a bonus spell slot for each spell level you can prepare. This stacks with the bonus spell slots granted by the Final Breakthrough feature.
- Cantrip Specialist
This feature remains unchanged.
- Breakthrough Rituals
At 5th level, you gain a ritual book containing any two 1st-level rituals from any spell list you have access to, including those from the Arcane Breakthroughs class feature. You may also learn and cast ritual spells from any spell list you have access to from the same feature. This otherwise functions as per the Ritual Caster feat.
- Cantrip Savant
This feature remains unchanged.
- Superior Breakthroughs
You retain this feature as described, except that it can apply to any Arcane Breakthrough or Artificer spells you cast, rather than only Arcane Breakthrough spells.
- Work In Progress
You retain this feature as described, except that you can attune to up to one additional magic item. This stacks with the Magic Item Adept, Magic Item Savant, and Magic Item Master class features. You can also create and use one additional Infused Item over your normal limit.
- Final Breakthrough
This feature remains unchanged.
