More information...

A large figure charges out of the shadows wielding a heavy great axe, dressed in clothes like that of a commoner the creature could easily be mistaken for a physically powerful looking human. However his white featureless face with two, bright green jewel-like eyes soon establishes he is no ordinary human.”

Masked brutes get their name from the bone structure that makes up their face. It looks exactly like a porcelain mask from a distance with two green jewels for eyes, although on closer inspection the connection between the skin and bone can be seen as well as the organic oozing movement in its eyes. It is this facial structure that is believed to protect the masked brute from all types of mind influences.

Serving as agents and the elite bodyguards for the leaders of the Twisted Planes, Masked Brutes bring their laws to other planes helping keep the twisted influences strong especially in the material plane.

Combat[edit]

Like other creatures from the Twisted Planes, Masked Brutes become more powerful around strong emotions. These emotions give the Brutes so much power it makes them unstable and a slave to the emotions they need.

Frightful Presence (Ex): When a Masked Brute charges or attacks it inspires terror in all creatures within 30ft that have fewer hit dice or levels than it has. Each opponent must make a Will save (DC17) or become shaken for 5d6 rounds. A successful save leaves the opponent immune to the Masked Brutes frightful presence for 24 hours.

Emotional Dependency (Ex): If a masked Brute goes without emotions of anger, hatred, excitement or fear for more than one hour, it takes a –6 penalty to its AC and a –10 to its strength and dexterity modifiers until it is around these emotions again.

Explosive (Ex): A Masked Brute around strong emotions of fear, hatred, excitement or anger becomes unstable internally, it’s blood, muscles and organs overloading. It gains a +4 enhancement bonus onto all of its saves. However if it ever needs to save against massive damage it must pass not only a fortitude save but also a will save of the same DC (The DC of the save is increased by 6 due to the Masked Brutes instability.)

If the Brute is knocked unconscious in this state or dies then he explodes in a ball of fire leaving only his bone like face behind. This explosion deals d6s of damage equal to its HD. A 10HD Brute explodes dealing 10d6 damage to everyone in a 50ft radius. A reflex save is allowed; a successful save means the victim only takes half damage.

Call of the Souls (Su): As a standard action a Masked Brute can call 1d8 Burnt Souls to its aid even if it not within the Twisted Planes. The reinforcements arrive via a portal within four rounds; they can do this once a day.
