Marduk is one-half of the Draconic deity Bahamut,along with Xymor. He represents Bahamut's lawful, honorable side. He is considered to be the de facto ruler of the Draconic pantheon, though in reality his power is quite limited, due to the individualistic nature of most deities of the Draconic pantheon. Kings, judges, lawyers, soldiers, and others who make their livings by enforcing the law or by making war revere him. He takes on the role of a god of war to spread the influence of an honorable civilization. Honor to him is the best way to discipline oneself, and his worshipers live by strict codes of conduct. His antithesis is Tiamat, the evil Draconic deity of undisciplined indulgence. In physical form, he takes the appearance of a Gold Dragon of immense age.
Dogma[edit]
Marduk demands that his followers abide by a strict code of conduct. Above all else, it means living honorably by obeying and enforcing the law.
1. Always obey the laws of the land. If you wish to change these laws, stay within those laws as you attempt to change them. 2. Those who disobey the law must realize the error of their ways. Even if those who break the law have good intentions, you much teach them that their actions detract from society much more than they add. 3. Remember to keep your honor with you at all times. Even fighting dishonorable foes without honor detracts from your honor. 4. Seek to spread the rule of law as far as you can.
Clergy and Temples[edit]
Priests of Marduk wear a habit of golden thread. The habit is a Tunic, Breaches, Boots, and an undershirt. Embossed into the cloth are geometric crenelation shapes. High-ranking priests wear gold headdresses shaped as diadems with cheek fused to either side. They usually have a longsword slung over their back, not on either side but perfectly symmetrical. Clerics of Marduk usually remain within his temples, but conduct ceremonies for the state. They teach their codes of honor to the populace when preaching, and authorities often consider them a useful asset for controlling the population. Unlike Marduk's priests, his paladins quest across the world, spreading honor and trying to tame the wilderness.
Marduk's temples are immense fortresses of stone with golden fittings. They are shaped like the bottom half of a pyramid, with a square base and trapezoidal walls sloping inward. Over the outer wall, a large courtyard of stone takes shape. At least four large towers rise over the walls, one at each inner corner of the outer wall. Many of the necessary facilities of a temple are built into the wall, but the main cathedral is located in the center of the courtyard. A shrine to Xymor is often located in the open air behind the cathedral. Temples of Marduk are usually only found in the largest cities, due to Marduk's reputation as a deity of rulership.
