Magnitudian (5e Race)
From D&D Wiki
Magnitudians[edit]
“ | They look human, but within them is a rabid beast, and the heart of a giant. | ” |
Physical Description[edit]
Magnitudians appear similar to a disheveled, wild humanoid, with burly muscles and a stout build. However, they are much larger in berth and height than the average human, having both greater muscle and fat indices. Their hair is thick, coarse, and ropey, often appearing like a tangled mess. Most notable about magnitudians is their magical tattoos that span the breadth of their broad chests, male or female. Using the arcane magic imbued in these, magnitudians can shift their sizes and grow as tall as a small giant. Their eyes are notably the colors of onyx and stone.
History[edit]
The magnitudians claim descent from an earthquake of ages. The exact details are unclear but there are two competing narratives. One is that the magnitudians are descendants of a people blessed by Gebthant, god of earth. Supposedly, an earthquake of great magnitude revealed a magical rift that imbued the nearby peoples in the Nathwood by Thay with immense powers. These magnitudians have commonly clashed with the magocentric Thay nation who threaten the borders of their habitat. Due to the innate magic in their blood, the have earned some recognitions as valuable gladiators when caught and enslaved by Thayans. Going into the 15th century, the magnitudians have better secured their holdings as Thay's population became disillusioned with their elite, that was turning a deaf ear to their war-ravaged country in favor of self interest in immortality.
A second group of magnitudians are not found in Thay at all, but in the northwest of Faerun, in the Ice Spires. They claim to have come into existence when Hartkiller ripped his way out of his dead mother's womb whilst she was a mountain. The stones dropped to the ground as a result of the formation of the "womb cave" are what made the magnitudians, or so they believe. These magnitudians are called the cave subrace, and they hold a grudge against storm giants for the murder of Hartkiller.
The two magnitudian groups have largely remained ignorant of each other due to being so far spread out across Faerun. Some who hear of the others scoff at their legitimacy as beings born of the earth.
Society[edit]
The two groups of magnitudians share very similar societal fashions. While the cave magnitudians live in cold weather and thus dress warmer, they still prefer to be as nude as possible like their forest counterparts. This is because magnitudians love to show off their tattooed chests, each with unique designs. They live as large tribes, which have smaller clans within. The clan chiefs come together to battle and see who is the strongest and largest. Whoever wins is the one fit to lead the tribe. The leader is responsible for training and leading the tribe warriors in battle, as well as organizing hunts. In a magntudian society, both male and females bear the same responsibility to upkeep their strength for the sake of serving their community. Both sexes undergo the same coming-of-age ceremony where they compete in a grand contest to show their strength and hopefully earn a good rank within the warriors.
Personality[edit]
Magnitudians are very stubborn and stand up for what they believe in without much thinking. They are hard to sway in the ways of logic and wisdom, instead favoring strict strength and battle instinct. It is hard to become friends with a magnitudian when they view you as weak, because they only break bread with equals. They would sometimes sooner consider a beast as an ally than a whiny human. Compassion is sometimes lost on them, supposedly due to their savage hearts that can only feel for their own kind. However, some magnitudians experience a desire to look outside their tribes and test their boundaries, which expands their horizons and results in them traveling.

Depending on the tribes ,there are many different names for both male and female magnitudians but there are names both forest and caves share.
