Lupus (5e Race)
From D&D Wiki
Lupus[edit]
A race that had faced near extinction at the hands of a man who came to conquer their lands in search of expanding his rule. Through the use of a terrifying chemical that rotted all life it came into contact with, the once strong lupus empire was almost completely decimated over the course of a day.
Physical Description[edit]
Lupus come in two forms specifically. A pure blooded Lupus has their ancestral humanoid features as well as those of their bestial origins. They have the overly fluffy hair and ears of a wolf and a long fluffy tail as well as striking wolf's eyes. A mixed blood Lupus however is more bestial, their blood diluted and made more to mirror their origins. They are large bipedal wolves covered from head to toe in fur, sporting all the features of a wolf from ears, to snout, to claws. Pure blooded lupus have a natural affinity to magic and blend that adeptness into their swordplay. Mixed blooded lupus are more feral, being stronger and faster than their pure blooded counterparts while sacrificing their affinity for magic. Pure blooded lupus are only born between the courtship of two pure bloods whereas a mixed blood is born between two mixed bloods or a mixed blood and a pure blood.
History[edit]
The lupus empire existed on the same landmass as the O'korn, a race that lived by the waters. The lupus empire was in the grassy mainlands to the far East of O'korn, so far that they had not known that O'korn had been decimated until they had sent another messenger. The lupus peoples were luckily spared from the same fate as their distant neighbors and sought not to invoke the ire of whatever had decimated the continent. The lupus people were ruled by a lineage of pure blooded royals called the Yukis, the first emperor being Shiro Yuki; which translates to White Snow. Hundreds of years would pass before a strange man sailed to the shores of the lupus empire and demanded that they grant their lands to him or suffer the consequences. The lupus declined his ridiculous demands to which he declared war. The lupus empire had seemed to be winning for years before "The Conqueror", as he would be called, called back his forces. Dark black fog was hurtled in barrels by siege towers and catapults. Undead with tanks filled with the gas walked amongst the rot and sprayed the foul gas through houses and streets while "The Conqueror" looked on from the towers stationed outside the city. The royal family fled deep underground and the citizens of lupus were displaced and sent into exile for years in the depths of the earth. But many years have passed, "The Conqueror" had become complacent and the lupus empire has been reborn in the earth, waiting to strike and reclaim their lands.
Society[edit]
Lupus society was set in a social hierarchy, with the high priest at the very top. The high priest was always the brother or sister of the current emperor and was a paragon of holy and arcane magic following their bestial god. The emperor was second to the high priest, controlling the military and issuing the laws of the empire. The military was streamlined and had no ranks amongst its soldiers with all soldiers, whether archer, flag bearer or infantry having the same standing. Royalty themselves were the commanders on the front lines, the sons and daughters of the Emperor being the commanders and captains amongst the lines. At the very bottom was the peasantry, but they were the backbone of the empire. They kept the fields tilled, the waters flowing and the people fed and safe through their architecture. Thus the peasants were respected deeply.
Lupus Names[edit]
The lupus people followed a set of syllables for male or female names based upon the season they were born in based upon the name of the season themselves. A Lupus born in spring had Sp or Spr as their starting syllable. A lupus born in summer had a name starting with S or Su. A lupus born in fall/autumn had either F, Fa, A or Au as their starting syllable. Lupus born in winter always had W or Wi as their starting syllables.
