(This creature is designed specifically as supplemental material for the DnD 5e adventure book Icewind Dale: Rime of the Frost Madian. It's intended purpose is to be used as an alternative to the Yeti on the random wilderness encounters table on page 105.)

The lonely cottage is a Large-sized mimic that only appears during blizzards when the temperatures are at their worst, and the winds are at their strongest. The lonely cottage lures adventures by appearing to be a place of shelter from the harsh storm. Waiting until the characters are close enough to enter the mimic reveals itself by attacking. The interior of the lonely cottage appears to be an amalgam of fleshy textiles and mimed furnishings, as well as several long fleshing appendages with spikes protruding from the tips. These appendages known as lashers can extend through the entryway up to 20 feet and are used to attack & grappled fleeing adventurers. In addition, when the lonely cottage chooses to strike, the door appearing to be made of wood breaks down into several fangs which the lonely cottage can use to bite its prey.
