When something goes wrong with a miscast stinking cloud spell, the resulting conjuration can take on a life of its own. The cloud becomes smaller and denser, sometimes taking the vague form of a beast. Although not susceptible to diffusion from strong winds, it still prefers to find wide, secluded areas such as a hall in a ruined castle. Constructed Nature. A living stinking cloud doesn't require air, food, drink, or sleep. Variant: Living Stinking Lightning CloudA living stinking lightning cloud has a CR of 4 (1,100). This living spell was also conflated with the residue of lightning bolt spells. Its volume crackles with electricity presenting an extra danger for those engulfed by it. It has immunity to lightning damage and has the following feature: Ignite. The cloud ignites flammable objects in its space that aren't being worn or carried. It also has the following action option: Lightning (Recharge 5–6). Each creature in the same space as the cloud must make a DC 14 Dexterity saving throw. The creature takes 28 (8d6) lightning damage on a failed save, or half as much damage on a successful one. |
