Engulf (Ex) | A shadowy miasma can flow around creatures that fit within its space as a standard action. It cannot make a slam attack during a round in which it engulfs. The shadowy miasma merely has to move over the opponents, affecting as many as it can cover. Opponents can make attacks of opportunity against the shadowy miasma, but if they do so they are not entitled to a saving throw. Those who do not attempt attacks of opportunity must succeed on a Reflex saving throw (DC 13) or be engulfed; on a success, they are pushed back or aside (opponent's choice) as the shadowy miasma moves forward. Engulfed creatures are subject to the full normal effect of the shadowy miasma's darkness and malevolent miasma abilities each round on the shadowy miasma's turn, and are considered to be grappled. |
Darkness (Su) | A creature hit by a shadowy miasma's slam attack or engulfed by it has concealment and is considered to be in full darkness until the shadowy miasma's next turn. Darkvision does not work while under this effect, as the darkness produced by the shadowy miasma is considered magical darkness. Any light spell of 2nd level or lower is dispelled if its area of effect is ever entirely within the shadowy miasma's space. |
Malevolent Miasma (Su) | A creature hit by a shadowy miasma's slam attack or engulfed by it takes 4d4 points of nonlethal damage (Fortitude DC 13 negates). Creatures which are immune to poison automatically succeed this saving throw. |
A smoke-like cloud of pitch-black vapor ripples mindlessly across the barren ground. The smell of rot wafts faintly from its location.
A shadowy miasma is a combination of the spells darkness, which can be found in the Player's Handbook, and malevolent miasma, which can be found in the Spell Compendium.
