Lifeweaver (5e Class)
From D&D Wiki
Lifeweaver[edit]
In a world where the arcane and the divine weave intricate patterns of magic, the Kinetist stands apart as a master of raw, elemental power. Unlike wizards who study ancient tomes or clerics who draw upon the favor of deities, Kinetists tap into the primal forces of nature. They harness their very life essence, turning it into a formidable weapon. Every spell they cast, every power they unleash, exacts a toll on their physical form, yet grants them strength unmatched by any conventional means.
The path of the Lifeweaver is not for the faint of heart. It requires a deep understanding of one's own limits and a willingness to push beyond them. These elemental practitioners are marked by a resilience and fortitude that few can rival. They draw upon their inner vitality, channeling it through rigorous training and sheer willpower. With each spell, their bodies strain and their health wanes, but the power they wield grows ever more potent. This cycle of self-sacrifice and empowerment is the essence of the Lifeweaver’s art.
Lifeweaver sare often recognized by their lean, honed physiques, marked with scars and sigils that tell tales of battles fought within and without. Their eyes, burning with an inner fire, reveal the fierce determination that drives them. The air around them crackles with energy, a tangible testament to the elemental power they command. In battle, they are a sight to behold – a whirlwind of fire, earth, water, and air, capable of feats that leave allies in awe and enemies in despair.
The origin of Lifeweavers is shrouded in mystery and legend. Some say they are descendants of ancient warriors who discovered the secrets of inner power in their quest for dominance. Others believe they were once ordinary spellcasters who, disillusioned with the constraints of traditional magic, sought a new path. In the Forgotten Realms, it is whispered that the first Lifeweaver learned their craft from the elemental lords themselves, striking pacts with the very spirits of nature. Whatever their beginnings, all Lifeweavers share a common creed: to grow stronger, one must be willing to sacrifice. This creed is not just a philosophy but a way of life, a truth written in every fiber of their being.
In their relentless pursuit of power, Lifeweavers often find themselves at the crossroads of life and death, balancing precariously between incredible strength and utter collapse. This duality defines their existence, imbuing them with a sense of purpose and clarity that few can understand. They are warriors of the highest order, scholars of the self, and masters of an art that is as ancient as it is unique.
To face a Lifeweavers in battle is to confront the raw essence of life and power. Their spells are not mere invocations of arcane words, but extensions of their very soul, shaped by the primal forces of nature. With every incantation, they pour their vitality into the fray, bending the elements to their will and unleashing devastation upon their foes. Yet, even as they push themselves to the brink, their spirit remains unbroken, fueled by the knowledge that true strength comes from within.
In the annals of history, Lifeweavers are remembered as legends – heroes and anti-heroes whose deeds have shaped the world. In the Forgotten Realms, their influence can be seen in the shifting sands of Anauroch, the tempestuous waves of the Sea of Swords, and the towering peaks of the Spine of the World. They are the living embodiment of the ultimate truth: to achieve greatness, one must be willing to pay the price. The path of the Lifeweaver is arduous and fraught with danger, but for those who dare to walk it, the rewards are beyond measure.
Embrace the Elements, Unleash the Self[edit]
In a world where arcane scholars and divine clerics command magic through study and faith, there exists a rare breed of practitioners who draw their power from a far more personal source. The Lifeweaver is a master of elemental forces, wielding the raw power of nature by sacrificing their own life essence. These intrepid souls understand that true strength comes from within, embracing the pain and strain it takes to channel their inner vitality into devastating spells. Each spell cast is a testament to their resilience, a balance between life and death, and a step toward unrivaled power. For the Lifeweaver, the body is both a conduit and a crucible, where the elements themselves are forged through willpower and sacrifice. In the realms where legends are born, Lifeweaver stand as warriors of unparalleled might, their very existence a beacon of the ultimate truth: to gain everything, one must be willing to give everything.
Creating a Lifeweaver[edit]
When creating a Lifeweaver , one should consider how the character first unlocked the primal forces within their own body. Was it through a harrowing ordeal that forced them to discover their inner power in a moment of desperation? Did they seek out ancient texts and forgotten lore to learn the secrets of harnessing their life force through sheer will? Perhaps they were the subject of an intense training regimen by a reclusive master, or the survivor of a ritual gone awry, leaving them forever changed.
Secondly, how has the ability to channel elemental energy and strain their body to its limits impacted their life? Have they embraced this power to protect their community, becoming a guardian who stands against natural and unnatural threats alike? Do they wander the world, seeking to master their abilities and uncover the deeper mysteries of the elemental forces? Or have they used their formidable strength for personal gain, driven by ambition or a desire for revenge?
As a Lifeweaver , your journey is one of constant self-discovery and relentless pursuit of power. Your life is a testament to the balance between sacrifice and strength, pain and triumph. With each spell you cast, you push your body to its limits, drawing upon the elemental forces that flow through your very being. How you wield this power, and the choices you make, will define your path and shape your destiny. Will you rise as a beacon of hope and resilience, or will your quest for power lead you down a darker road? The story of the Lifeweaver is yours to tell.

Strain[edit]
As a Lifeweaver, you possess an innate connection to the elemental forces that course through the world. This connection grants you access to extraordinary powers, but it also imposes a significant burden on your body and mind. Your mastery over these energies is represented by your Strain pool, a reservoir of raw elemental power that you can draw upon to fuel your abilities.
You gain a pool of Strain points.
If your number of Strain points ever exceed your current hit points, you fall unconscious as if you were incapacitated non-lethally. You remain unconscious until your hit points rise above your Strain level. However, if you fall to 0 hit points, you still make death saving throws as normal.
As a Lifeweaver, you have learned to manage this strain through training and discipline. Your Strain pool decays over time, reducing by an amount equal to your Lifeweaver level every hour. After a long rest, your pool of Strain points refreshes to 0, allowing you to start anew each day.
Lifeweaving Affinity[edit]
At 1st level, you chose an affinity. Choose between <!-list the subclass options->, all detailed at the end of the class description. Your choice grants you features at 1st level and again at 5th, 7th, 11th and 14th level.
Lifeweaving Magic[edit]
At 1st level, you gain the ability to harness the primal forces within you to cast spells, known as Kinetic Magic. Your access to these spells is fueled by your inner vitality, channeling your life force to weave magic. Your spellcasting ability for these spells is Wisdom.
Spell Slots: The Lifeweaver table shows how many spell slots you have to cast your lifeweaver spells of 1st through 5th level. As an action, you can tap into your inner reserves, generating strain points in the process. You can generate one spell slot of a level equal to or lower than the maximum slot level indicated in the column "Slot Level" in the Lifeweaver table.
Spell Slot Level | Strain points gained |
---|---|
1st | 2 |
2nd | 3 |
3rd | 5 |
4th | 6 |
5th | 7 |
When you finish a long rest, you regain all your expanded spell slots.
- Known Spells
You know a number of spells from the Lifeweaver spell list as shown in the column "Spells Known" in the Lifeweaver table. The spells you know at 1st level are fixed, but as you gain levels, you can replace one of your known spells with a different one each time you gain a Lifeweaver level.
- Arcane Focus
You can use your body as an arcane focus for casting your spells, drawing upon the innate connection between your physical form and the elemental energies you command.
- Ritual Casting
You can cast a spell as a ritual if that spell has the ritual tag and you have the spell prepared. Casting a spell as a ritual takes an additional 10 minutes of concentration beyond the spell's casting time, but it doesn't expend a spell slot.
Ability Score Improvement[edit]
When you reach 4th level, and again at 8th, 12th, 16th and 19th level, you can increase one ability score of your choice by 2, or you can increase two ability scores of your choice by 1. As normal, you can't increase an ability score above 20 using this feature.
