Laigan Empire[edit]

The Laigan Empire is an ancient empire that exists between Ourland World, Thunder Valley and Farfallen and links them together.

History of the Empire[edit]

The Laijan empire existed first on the world of Kyrae. They were the first tieflings, humans touched by demonic forces. They lived for eons, their human and demonic blood not tainted by interbreeding as later tieflings are. The Laijan forged an empire from the disorganised and reeling Kyrae. They at one point ruled all of Kyrae, but still wanted more power. They tried to enter the astral plane to take the astral sea as part of their empire, but their demonic blood kept them from entering the realm. Laijan mages researched a ritual to bypass this through creation of a planar gate. They succeeded, but now how they had planned.

These Laijan gates were rifts past even the celestial realm. They were more powerful than the universe, and were completely undetectable to the gods. The Laijan sent scouts through, discovering a strange world where their magic was ineffective. The empire, now with a new target, prepared an army to conquer Farfallen through this rift. However, they found their rift too small, so they created an even larger rift. This rift entered not Farfallen but Ourland, where they found their empire could easily make a foot hold. They turned their efforts from Farfallen to Ourland and set out to conquer the world. Through hundreds of years they succeeded, becoming the original Quadmire empire.

Through further research into the gates they learned to control them and redirect their focus on Farfallen. They created more gates in Ourland and Kyrae. They laid waste to Farfallen, even with their useless magic. They devised the eldritch runes to counteract their arcane loss. These new runes devastated the Divinely focused Farfallens and they soon controlled a sizeable portion of Farfallen.

Influence of the Empire[edit]

The empire has been given many names across the worlds, though only Ourland records the name Laijan. The gates into Farfallen are spread throughout the world and has given rise to many religious beliefs involving demons from other worlds. In Thunder Valley the Laijan empire has been all but forgotten, with only stone inscriptions of tieflings the only trace. The gates have been lost to time and are believed to have been destroyed in an effort to keep the Laijan out. However, some gates remain standing in places long forgotten.

Ancient artifacts from the time of the Laijan empire still exist, and act to travel between the worlds. How they manage this is unsure, but they have been recorded in all three worlds at some point in history after the Laijan empire had fallen. The most well known is a ring called Visk.

Fall of the Empire[edit]

The Laijan empire was spread too thin, revolutions began in Kyrae and Ourland. The original Tieflings were now few in number and lesser in power. The Laijan empire fell first in Ourland, an alliance of rebellious states liberating themselves and sealing the Laijan gate. Although the Laijan could create more gates, they did not have resources to retake Ourland, as their campaign in Farfallen was beginning to falter. To make matters worse, nations were splitting from the Laijan Empire, declaring war against their opressors. The empire was doomed. Eventually the Laijan Empire was sublimated in Kyrae. The Empire's collapse ushered in Kyrae's first war of the gods, sealing the fate of both the Laijan empire and Kyrae. The remaining Laijan States in Farfallen used their dwindling resources to attempt to create a gate to a new world. It is presumed they succeeded, as when the Farfallen nations armies marched into the capital of the Empire they found no life. However, they also found no gate, and it has been suggested that in the attempt to recreate the ritual they accidently killed themselves.
